HDHomerun Dual - missing scn file in SageTV folder?
Hi there,
I am in process of installing HDHomerun Dual to provide TV from my cable provider into my SageTV7 setup using HD300 and SageTV installed on my WHS1 server. I have installed the HDhomerun software on my WHS1 server and I have completed the following steps, 1) Install HDhomerun software on my WHS1 server 2) Select SageTV as main application 3) Select Source Type / Cable TV 4) Run scan which provides a plentitude of channals and save the configuration 5) In Quick TV I can verify that the HDHR indeed works 6) In SageTV on my HD300, I select Setup - Setup Video Sources and I can see the 2 tuners from the HDhomerun. 7) Selecting the first tuner, I elect to run a full channal scan to import the channel list generated by step 4). Unfortunately, the scan only returns a message that '0 channals found'. Now, after browsing the web two evenings straight , I understand that step 4) is supposed to generate a scn file in the default SageTV/SageTV folder and that this file is read by SageTV when running step 7) to generate a FRQ file. Unfortunately, it doesnt seem that I have a scn file located in my c\program files\SageTV\SageTV. Could that be the cause of my problems? |

Sorry for my late reply...have been busy relocating across the Atlantic with wife and kids...
I have just tried to follow yourn advice, - I uninstalled HDHomerun - Rebooted server - Stopped Sage services - Installed HDHomerun - Configured for HDHomerun SageTV and 'digital cable' QAM, ran scan and 'saved' - Started SageTV Services I have checked for the scn file in the SageTV/SageTV folder...and it isn't there Instead, in folder "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Silicondust\HDHomeRun" I find a 'Digital Cable.XML' file with the following content - sample, ___________________________________________ <?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes" ?> - <Lineup> - <Program> <Name>DR Ram</Name> <Enabled>false</Enabled> <Modulation>a8qam64-6875</Modulation> <Frequency>570000000</Frequency> <TransportStreamID>1160</TransportStreamID> <ProgramNumber>600</ProgramNumber> <GuideNumber>27</GuideNumber> </Program> - <Program> <Name>NRK1</Name> <Enabled>false</Enabled> <Modulation>a8qam64-6875</Modulation> <Frequency>570000000</Frequency> <TransportStreamID>1160</TransportStreamID> <ProgramNumber>610</ProgramNumber> </Program> - <Program> <Name>ZDF</Name> <Enabled>false</Enabled> <Modulation>a8qam64-6875</Modulation> <Frequency>562000000</Frequency> <TransportStreamID>1170</TransportStreamID> <ProgramNumber>520</ProgramNumber> </Program> ______________________________________________ It looks like the kind of data I would expect in the SCN file...it is just in a different folder with a different file format. Any thoughts anyone? Pressure is high and I am running low on WAF |

If it was Windows 7 or Vista I would say to check the "virtual store" for the files. But since this is WHSv1 it shouldn't have that problem as far as I know. Sorry but I'm out of ideas.

Beda,
1) Make sure you checked some channels and applied/saved your config in the HDHomerun setup. 2) Have you also tried searching your entire hard drive for the SCN and FRQ files? Do a search in Explorer - use "All File and Folders" and use enter *.scn If found, check the dates to make sure they are new, and put them in the proper Sage directory. john |

Thanks all for your input.
I thourght that since I am missing a SCN file created by HDhomerun, it would be propper to ask those guys...I created a support ticket and they responded the following, __________________________ SCN files are only generated for US cable systems. This is done because US providers typically do not send identifying data for most of their channels, which makes for a lot of work when setting up guide listings. DVB sources do have identifying information, so there is no need, and SageTV should be able to find channels on its own. We would like to get some diagnostic data to determine why it isn't. 1) Please run HDHomeRun Setup, enable Send diagnostic information... on the Advanced tab and click Apply 2) Click Rescan on the Tuners tab 3) Click Scan on the Digital Cable tab 4) Open SageTV, add the tuner (first delete it if it is already there), and run a full channel scan. Do not copy over the scan results from another tuner if it prompts. Reply back and we will check the logs. Silicondust Support _________________________ I am trying this out and will update thread with findings. |

If I'm not mistaken you no longer scan in the HDHomerun software for the OTA channels. You only scan for the OTA channels in SageTV. I had the issue before in Sage where it wouldn't find any channles on the scan. A reinstall of SageTV, then start SageTV, shut it down and then start again. Then go to Setup Video Sources and scan for your TV channels. And make sure you're choosing it out of Digital channel lineup. You'll see your zip code in there.

The support guys at Silicondust are really responsive. What a pleasure. They respond:
__________________________________ The logs show that SageTV just keeps trying to tune a channel at 156500000Hz, rather than actually scanning through as it should do. A search of the SageTV forums suggests that this happens on WHS when setting up from a client. The suggestion it to try using remote desktop into the server, running the sagetv.exe in the install directory, and attempting configuration of the tuners in there. __________________________________ I will be out of town the next days and will give it a shot once I am back. If anyone has experienced mentioned problem related to OS WHS1 installing via a client I am open for input. |

yesssss
I got it nailed and saved my marriage I tried above suggestions tonight given from the forum as well as Silicondust support...unfortunately, neither worked. So I was back to a long night googling my way through 'SageTV & channel" set up threads on www. Finally, I came accross this http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30377 I have just relocated from US to Denmark...way back, I had setup SageTV configuration to US location and I hadn't changed it after relocation. It meant that SageTV received DVB-C signals but was setup for US location where such doesn't exist. No wonder it didn't scan. Thanks for all your input. |
