For my recording drives I'm using an Adaptec 5805 running four WD Caviar Black 750GB drives in a RAID 5. I hope to, in the near future, upgrade my four Hitachi 7K 2TB drives in a RAID 5 to six Hitachi 7k 3TB drives in a RAID 6 and then use my existing 2TB drives in a RAID 10 for SageTV. I'm not a fan of RAID 5 as I have rebuilds fail on me, especially with WD "Green" drives.

I've been planning this upgrade for over a year but it was put on hold when hard drives prices went through the rough last fall. Prices are pretty much back to normal now

Are you really recording 1080P? your sig states you have HDPVR and HDHR's.
Either way I can record from my two HDHR's and one HDHR_Prime at the same time to a Mirrored set of drives with no issues either.

You are correct, it is 1080i, not 1080p. I forgot that the HD-PVR and HVR-2250 max out at 1080i.

1080i for the HD-PVRs which are hooked up to two HD cable boxes and I primarily use the HVR-2250 for recording clear QAM stations (two at a time) through cable (I believe Fox is transmitted in 720p but all others in 1080i).

No issues what so ever recording four 1080i recordings at a time. When I first setup SageTV with the HVR-2250 I had a drop-out/capturing problem but I was able to determine it was due to a faulty coaxial cable Time Warner cut for me. Once i replaced it with $2 Monoprice cable I have never had another issue.
