I'm running 960x480 output thru a VGA cable connected to my plasma.

I just tried changing resolutions as well as color depth.

Thanks for your input guys.

I'm gonna wait aq few days and see if Frey can help me out before I get crazy.

In the "god that's depressing, am I really going to have to reinstall", I justed posted this thread on avsforum.com.

There's a guy with an A7N8X - eDeluxe [my mobo], ATI 9600Pro, using:
- VMR9
- 3d accel off
- Intervideo decoders

with no sleep issues.

I just may end up going down something similar to mdmint's route to see what the heck is going on. CompUSA has that sale on 250GBs for $160 right now, so I may end up getting one to serve as a test HD as I'm about to buy 5 of them as soon as there's a better sale on.

For res purposes, I'm running 848x480 for my plasma, but I also get this issue on 800x600.

yeah I bought my first one for that much (169.99)
but about two weeks ago
I got my second 250 GB for 130 so wait or goto frys electronics and get a 200 GB for 100 western digital
also compUSA has a 200 GB for 100 maxtor brand

furthermore

you are not using VMR9 without 3d acceleration enabled

if 3d acceleration is not enabled then sage using overlay for rendering

sorry to hear adjusting resolution did not help

remember just it the basics running and test after every piece of software you add

if 3daccel disabled means overlay used, let me ask you this:
- when I enable 3d accel, and resume from sleep, Sage just comes up with a black box. i.e., no menu, nothing displayed, just black inside the window.

Any idea what that's about?

sounds like something is wrong with sage, java, directx9.0b or video card drivers
make sure you have uninstalled every old version of java and/or video card drivers when installing a new set of java and/or video card drivers
have you tried using cinemaster video decoder
turn on VMR9 then enable 3d acceleration
then start video
it should have the transparent blue OSD(menu and such)
my direcTV box does it
but with overlay or even overlay with color keying enabled
you get either blue or clear not transparent blue that you get with VMR9
where you see the menus behind the the menu bars themselves not just around them(where they are blue)

I have no idea whats that about
can you try running a beta version of sageTV v2 and see if it does it

to download them just change the url
http://www.sage.tv/preDL.php?tmpFile..._0_19Setup.exe

http://www.sage.tv/preDL.php?tmpFile..._4_10Setup.exe
thats the old version but I cannot remember what is the beta version

should not be too hard to get right though

VMR9 will only work with 3d acceleration enabled though

IVB,

It is NOT the motherboard/video combo causing this. I have had this exact same configuration for several months now, and did not get this sleep issue until about 3 weeks ago? I have also had the same general apps, including powerstrip and theatertek, for a LONG time.

FWIW,

I did get contact again from George in Tech support. He wanted me to try the default renderer and decoder, which I did, and still the same issue. I forwarded him my properties file. Lets hope they can figure this one out.

When you enable 3D accelleration, Sage uses Direct3D to render the UI, so it sounds like you have a problem with your DX install and/or your video card.

You're not running a 3D screensaver or some other D3D app are you?

No screensaver, no other apps that I know of that use D3D. The only things I installed are:
- TheaterTek
- powerstrip
- PowerDVD [cuz it came free]
- WinDVD [cuz it came free]
- Sage
- ATI catalyst

I wonder if it's the order I installed things - it never worked right.

I wouldn't be the least surpised if the install order is/was the problem if ATI drivers updated last. Note that in my suggested install order it was before anything Sage or PVR related. I've seen some strange issues with ATI driver installs over the years...

Is it possible to un-install DX-9b??

I can't find that option anywhere.

DX is not meant to be uninstalled. You may be able to find a utility on the web (there were some for DX7 or 8). But if you think you need to do that you're better of with the nuke-and-pave route.

I had an idea what this was, and the properties file you posted confirms this.
You need to have:

dispose_windows=false

in the properties file. This is the default setting; so you must have changed it at some point.

Cheers.

Ouch! And, that came out of a discussion not too long ago about trying to get SageTV to release focus when it is put to sleep (Will Sleepmode/focus issues be fixed soon?), where it was noted that it did cause some problems.

No... the default is false, the properties is currently set to true.

And this, folks, is why SageTV rocks - the CTO checks my threads, and comes up with the exact reason why my system doesn't work.

Many many many many thanks to Jeff/et al for preventing me from re-installing/starting from scratch.

Life is now perfect.

And it's not like we didn't try to get you to resinstall or anything

Quite true resolved without reinstalling. But the thread started 6/9, resolved 6/14, 5 days. HD wipe and reinstall would have taken a few hours! But again, now if someone else has the same symptom the cause and solution is known.

Actually, a simple deletion of the properties file would have done it even faster. Edit: Oh wait... that suggestion was in the very first reply... an uninstall & reinstall won't get rid of it if you keep the same dir: have to delete it manually, or save the wiz.bin file & delete the whole directory.
