Is there a way to enable logging?

The Trial version crashes at random. Sometimes its during a recording, other times its when the system is doing nothing at all. I enabled the console through the registry, but when Sage crashes the console goes with it, and there are no logs. Is there some way to enable logging? Is there an issue with the Trial software? I downloaded V2 19.

Running 2 250MCEs.

I would suggest that you contact tech support.

In your Sage.properties file and add this line at the bottom. "debug_logging=TRUE" (without quotes). This will create log files in the SageTV directory. They are much more detailed than the debugging console.

Hope this helps.

Beau

19 * at the bottom? Or should it be 20?

When I put that at the bottom and start Sage I dont see any logs, and when I look at the properties file I see that * line moved to the top with an =.

Probably. Like I said: contact tech support. I'll bet they want logging only used when it really needs to be used for purposes of tech support assistance.

I did contact tech support before I posted and I haven't heard from them yet. My eval will expire and I'd like to make sure its reasonably stable before I buy it.

Their contact page says they will get back within 72 hours. I'm curious -- do you have any hs_err_pid###.log files in your SageTV directory? (Those are java error logs.) If so, maybe that would give a hint.

Also: what version of java do you have installed? Is it the latest? I believe the latest one fro Sun is 1.4.2_04-b05.

Do you have 3D Acceleration enabled in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Advanced? If so, try disabling it.

I have no log files of any kind, and the console doesnt stay up when it crashes so its hard to know where to look. The system is fairly fresh, so the latest everything so be installed, but I'm in the process of updating everything anyway. 3D acceleration is disabled.

I suppose that it would have been nice that whomever edited my post would've wrote something in the post about editing it so as not to lead to the confusion.

Sorry for posting something taboo.

How about an IRQ being shared between the 250s and the video card? Perhaps move one of the cards? (esp. if it is right next to the video card.) Try just 1 encoder to start with? I'm just guessing at things to try...

Just for info.

In the past us mods who've editted such things have left such notes. The fact that you're post doesn't even show a last editted by.. Mod's name, suggests that it was maybe editted by an Admin. Or even that Frey has added a filter to the board software to scan and auto edit such posts. The fact that the text was replaced with *s, would seem to support the auto filter theory.

However it was editted, they do this to cut down on confusion and to make sure all such high level help goes thru tech support. This allows Frey to be aware of any issues that may need to be addressed in a future upgrade.

PS:In case you're wondering...No, I wan't the one who edditted your post. I always leave a note and usually even PM the user.
