Crashes during playback of recordings
Hi, been using SageTV for 2 weeks now and it is nearly flawless.
Having a problem with playback of the following recording quality that I have added seeker/recording_qualities/MPEG2\ Max\ Quality\ -\ 5.6GB\ per\ hr=MPEG2 Max Quality,384,48000,12575000 Prior to adding a few new qualities, I was using the 3.25GB DVD Standard setting and had no problems. My hardware is a Compaq Evo 2.4GHZ/160GB Seagate HD/EVGA MX4000 Nvidia card with TV-Out/512 DDR RAM/Rosyln "Blackbird" PVR-250 from Sage's bundle Pack. With the 5.6GB setting it frequenty crashes while I fast forward my recordings that were recorded with this setting. My 160GB drive is partitioned as a C: Drive with 30GB and my D: Drive as 130 GB. My D: drive was formated with 64KB block size. Any clues? I have not deviated from the standard installation and the only changes I made to the sage.properties file was additional recording qualities. Thanks |

Change it to this:
seeker/recording_qualities/MPEG2Max\ -\ 5.6\ hour=MPEG2Max\ -\ 5.6\ hour,384,48000,12575000 You also need this line: mmc/python2_encoding/MPEG2Max\ -\ 5.6\ hour=videobitrate=4800000|width=720|height=480|audiobitrate=384|vbr=1|peakvideobitrate=12575000 Try that. Gerry

actually that looks like my mistake
I am guessing you added my extra qualities I noticed after installing XP Pro this weekend and changed it but the line you are showing is a default sage recording quality and it should not be added if you added it, it is probably in there twice there were 5 downloads of this and I know I did one but it should be fine now if you redownload it I apoligize about the mistake if you pm me or post your properties file I would be happy to maodify it and repost it sorry again I will check it once more but like I said that is a default and should not be added only the variable max 5.6 GB also if you added this on your own I would happy to still take a look at your properties file - Robert |

Well I deleted my sage.properties file and reconfigured everything froms scratch but it still crashes occasionally.
The only other thing I have added in the last few days was the NVDVD decoder 2.55. I suppose it is possible that this might be causing the crash. I will use the Elcard Moonlight decoder for a bit to see if this is the case. If it still does it I will just do a uninstall/delete Frey directory in program files and reinstall. Can anyone tell me what files I should backup if I don't want to loose say, my channel setup or my watching preferences? Thanks |

Backup your wiz.bin file. That has your channels, favorites, etc. You can also back up your properties file but it's might be better to reconfig a new one. If you're using nVidia for video DON't use it for audio and see if that helps.

I do have NVidia Audio as my sound source.
I will use the default first and see if there is a change. Regarding SHS post. I am not sure what you mean about not fast forwarding and 12MB. Please clarify. Thanks |

I will try changing sound source first. Anyone else using the Roslyn card besides me? Thanks

Don't set it to default because nVidia may now actually be your default. Pick another decoder such as Happague Intervide audio or any other decoder you have loaded. What SHS is saying is that you're recording at a very high rate of data and multiple fast forwards is contributing to the lockups. With that high of a recording rate you may need to take it easy on the FF button.

I do not think it is problem with the recording rate
it sounds to be the nvidia NVDVD audio decoder bug that thing would crash everytime I watched a show using it it was early beta but I do not think that it could be any better and not willing to try |

I don't think it is the recoding rate either as I have been using this rate for 2 weeks with Elcard decoder without any crashes. A P4 2.4 GHZ processor can easily handle the playback of media files this large. It appears this has only started since I setup NVDVD as both my audio and video decoder.

Yep kny3twalker was right!
Using another audio decoder along with the NVDVD video decoder solved the problem. Thank you gentlemen.
