Semi-Transparency doesn't work........at all
Ok, does it matter on what video chipset you use inorder for this to work? I'm curently running a Shuttle ss50 that has a built in video out. Picture is very crisp and everything works great except for the semi-transparent osd. I either get all or nothing no matter what render I use.

Your video card has to support VMR9 (from DirectX) or else it will fall back on using Overlay (or VMR7?), in which case you will not see partial transparency.

Opus4,
Funny thing is.....I am running VMR9....LOL...and it still gives me full transparency. |

Right -- if the video card isn't actually capable of using VMR9, you won't get partial transparceny. You might want to double check its capabilities.

Do you have 3D accelleration enabled?
|

Nope, 3D accelleration is off.

You need to have 3D accleration enabled to get both the semi-transparency and VMR9.

Also make sure to enable "3D Acceleration" setting, because even the onboard Intel Graphic extreme on my Sage server can do VMR9.... just not very well (tearing, stuttering with ffdshow, etc).
Edit: looks like someone just pointed this out too. |

SageTV uses the overlay if 3D acceleration is off. You will only get transparency/VMR9 if
a) you enable 3D acceleration; and b) your video MPEG2 decoder supports and is configured to allow VMR9. |

Ok. Well, I'm using VMR9 with Intervideo Video Decoder. With 3D acceleration off. And it's still giving me a full transparency. My current video chipset is an SIS 650, so I'm not sure if that will help solve my problem.

You have to enable 3D acceleration, otherwise it may say vmr9 but it not, it's actually overlay (with the full transparency).

If you select VMR9 and have 3D accelleration off, Sage reverts to Overlay which will give you full transparency. To get semi-transparency, you need to enable 3D Acceleration and select VMR9 as your renderer.

Ok, I have done that and now it gives me this error.
There was a MPEG-2 Video Error in playback. Details Could not find the Video Mixing Renderer filter (DIRECTX9 Only) Errcodes=0x80040273 |

that means your video card does not support it
my old mx 440 would do it so you do not need an expensive video card to it but probably an expensive one to do it well |

I obviously keep forgetting that 3D acceleration has to be on too. It seems like when you turn on VMR9, it should automatically enable 3D acceleration to simplify things.

yeah that would be nice
if the 3d acceleration just autoed on and you had the option for overlay but with overlay and the vertical sync from usepresentationinterval set to 1 it gives lag to the menus and stutters the video the 3d acceleration option is probably not needed then I do not think anyone is using VMR7 and it should probably be ditched |

Ok, that's what I thought. Strange how I do have a almost updated system but the intergrated video won't allow me to do the semi-transparency.

You do have DX9 installed right? I'd have thought you'd have been able to run VMR9 on that HW, but that the performance would have sucked.

Yes, I do have DX9. The motherboard I'm currently running is an FS50 which has an intergrated video and tv-out chipset.
http://www.sis.com/products/chipsets...ntium4/650.htm I'm also currently running a p4 2ghz with 256mb of ram. I have tried Default, Video Overlay, and VMR9 and they all showed the same results with different combination of decoder and 3D accelerate on. They pretty much either gave me all or non on transparency. |

with default should no transparency since it is VMR 7 but it looks close to overlay
