Unhappy It won't start

I just installed the Sage Recorder Demo. Before installing it, I installed "j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe". The installation seemed to go ok but but when I start the application, the nag screen pops up and I choose ok then the splash screen shows for about 1 second, then nothing. I'm using Windows XP SP1 with all of the latest Windows Updates. I have a WinTV PVR-250 card that works with WinTV 2000.

What's the last thing the splash screen says before it dies?

Also, make this registry setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Frey Technologies\Common\consolewin=1
as a (DWORD)

Then a DOS window will come up with SageRecorder; if it prints any messages out, those are of interest to me.

Thanks,

Thanks for the response. I did the registry entry you suggested and the DOS window does show but it's blank. It also goes away very quickly.

The splash screen says "Locating installed DirectShow Filters"

I said it was up for 1 second in my orginal post but it's more like 100ms.

Would you please try the SageTV demo and see if it works or where it fails? Their startup sequences are different so it might give me more information.

Thanks,

Will try the Sage TV Demo.

Not sure if this is siginficant or not. I check my Event Viewer and there is no mention of Sage recorder but it does mention two DirectShow capture cards that have been un-installed for several months. Seems like Windows is trying to initialize them at startup.

The WinFast TV2000 XP WDM Crossbar service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

The WinFast TV2000 XP WDM TVTuner service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

The BtXBar, WDM Crossbar service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

The BtTuner, WDM TV Tuner service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

The WinFast TV2000 XP WDM Video Capture service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

I wonder if Sage Recorder is thinking these cards are still there. How can I remove all traces of these devices from my system?

I installed the SageTV Demo and I'm getting the same result. Looks like it's saying "Priming User Interface" then the same message I get with SageRecorder. Again it's hard to say for sure as it happens so fast.

It's very possible that could be your problem. It does enumerate through all of the capture devices in the system when it loads...and that very well could be where it's dying.

I know Hauppauge has a program that will clear out all of their stuff. It's called hcwclear.exe and is on their CD.

SHS,

Thanks for the input. I was thinking that is what I might need to do.

On an un-related note, SHS, I read your review of the Xcard and I'm thinking of buying one for the HTPC I'm building. Is it, and/or the Xmedia player, capable of playing back large (4+GB) MPEG2 files as created by the PVR-250? (locally and/or from my LAN). All of my drives are NTFS. Also, will it play an authored DVD from a folder? Again, locally and/or from the lan.

I know this is totally off subject but as long as you are following this forum, I thought I would ask.

Thanks

Rick

Yes it can go well pass 4GB I have all ready done 15GB and yes it will read any mpeg I thur at it no matter who made the mpeg clip hardware or soft encoding clips, and a bouns you can make use of SageTV and SageRecoder to in fact I ready have REALmagic Xcard and WinTV-PVR 250 doing this in SageTV and SageRecoder over the VIP with a GF2, But there some mirror problem with this, Audio need to be address like audio sycn due to the fact it doing soft decoding and not make use of hardware decoder hopelee they work on a fix so I can try make full user of the hardware decoding on audio side but I still have funny fell that it still goign be out sycn in REALtime stream but I need try it frist so I know fro sure intell I get a fix for that mirror problem to find out for sure.
Keep in mind that VIP is that 26 pin header found on only older video card and very few even work some ATI and nVidia in fact I need add nVidia GF2 MX 400 to the list.

My problem is worse than not running, it won't install !!
I've downloaded the trial SageRecorder but it reports it's corrupted. So I downloaded again, and the new copy reports it's corrupted.

It will open fine on my main PC I downloaded it with but not my PVR machine (which has a clean Windows install on). I opened the package with WinRar and tried to run the MSI files which Windows recogises then simply stops.

Do I have to have a certain version of Windows Installer to be able to install the package?

The installer requires Windows Installer version 2.0. If you go to windows update and upgrade to the latest service pack it'll fix the problem.

Thanks,

Doh ! Stupid me, I forgot to update after installing it. I'll blame the MPEG card for causing me so much grief to get working, I forgot.

Many thanks for the quick reply. It's installed nicely now.

Am I one of the few people here NOT to be using this with a Hauppage card but a ProVideo 256 instead ?!

I'm running a PV256T with SageRecorder and a PVR-250 with SageTV. I love being able to record two shows at once because my wife and I don't always agree!

Smile It's working now!

I finally re-installed my O/S and SageRecorder seems to be working as advertized. Haven't done any long recordings but I will soon. That will be the real test.
