No Audio From Blu-Ray
I have noticed that my bedroom Sage setup has no audio when playing back Blu-Rays stored on my SageTv server. Video is just fine, but no audio. I have an HD200 with the audio set to Digital PCM connected to an LCD by HDMI. I am using the speakers in the LCD. I get audio from all other sources like Tv recordings, DVDs, etc just fine, but not from blu-rays. The audio from Blu-Rays works great on my main Tv with A/V receiver attached, and even on my PC client with just two speakers. Anyone know what the problem might be on the bedroom setup?

Sure. The HD200 doesn't support any of the Blue Ray audio formats. It will however pass them thru to a receiver that does support those. (master DTS-HD or Digital Dolby True HD.)

I know that, but shouldn't it down convert to stereo? DD will play just fine on stereo only equipment because it uses two of the front channels as stereo. Will DTS-MA(HD) or Dobly True Digital not do the same thing?

Gerry[/QUOTE It will also pass thru to a receiver that does not support them and play just fine downconverted to DD or DTS.

No, the HD200s do not down convert. Only the HD300s do that.
Your best option is to convert the blu-ray into an MKV and add an additional DD track to the MKV (sounds more complex than it is - Google PopCorn MKV AudioConverter).

A slight clarification, it will pass the core DD/DTS (out of the TrueHD/DTS-HD MA) to a reciever that supports them, only the HD300 can pass full TrueHD/DTS-HD.
Regarding the HD200 and "downcovnerting" it can extract the core stream from each as I mentioned above, but it does not have the license/ability to decode DTS which is required for outputting PCM. Some BDs should work on the HD200 with PCM output because they have either PCM audio tracks or TrueHD audio tracks, but a lot of BDs have DTS-HD MA audio tracks. The only way to get audio from those from the HD200 with PCM output is to add an AC3 track when you rip them. |

I tried a Blu-Ray with Dobly True Digital and it worked just fine. Stranger is correct, Dolby True Digital will work, but DTS-HD will not.
Well at least I know what will work and what will not now. I don't use that Tv for watching Blu-Rays much anyway, but it would have been nice if it worked. I guess I should have bought some HD300s when I had the chance.

You can always go add an AC3 (DD) track to those rips, there should be a number of posts/threads on ways to do that.
