Migrating metadata to backup server
I have a WHS machine that I use as a backup server. I have a full Sage license for it but I do not use it to record TV. How can I move over all of the metadata for my existing Video and TV files from my PrimaryServer to the BackupServer - noting that some of this metadata has been manually entered or cleaned up through the years as Sage and/or BMT didn't find matches?
All of the files are on PrimaryServer and are using UNC paths on the Primary Server -ie. \\PrimaryServer\TV, \\PrimaryServer\Videos. I will map the exact same folders to BackupServer so the file names should be 100% consistent although technically the files are local files on PrimaryServer and network files on BackupServer.
Will all of the TV shows that were recorded by SageTV7 have metadata scanned in by Sage from the metadata that is embedded in the files? If so this will not be true for SageTV V6 files, correct? And this is only true for MPG or TS files that have not been converted to other formats, correct? And does this include all metadata including stuff like knowing which Fanart file is the default when there are multiple Fanart files?
The files in my "Videos" folder are either movies or TV shows that originally came from TiVos, BeyondTV, SageTV, MCE or are ripped DVDs in VIDEO_TS folders or are DVDs transcoded to avi/mkv/etc. For many of these I manually fixed incorrect matchings from BMT or fixed bad Fanart (ie foreign language posters), etc. What is the best way to get metadata for these files from the backup server? Should I export .properties files from the PrimaryServer? Should I write a script that maps all of the metadata fields from file "abc123.avi" on PrimaryServer to metadata for that file on the backup server?
Should I just copy over the wiz.bin from PrimaryServer to BackupServer or is that likely to hose my BackupServer. I don't mind starting over from scratch on the backup server if required.
Or is there some other way to accomplish this and to maintain the consistency between the two servers on an ongoing basis.
