Because it's as revolutionary as SageTV...

has anyone bought one because J-Lo is hawking them?

Road in a Diesel version in Europe and it was quite nice. I would take it over a Smart. Aren't they coming out with an electric version for the States?

I do like the 500 (any model, really)... wish they had the diesel version here. If your usage model is right for it, it's a good option... (meaning, you drive by yourself, on a decently long commute). Though, depending on where you live, for the cost of driving the 500 around, you could drive a CNG powered SUV... www.cngprices.com

While these mini cars are interesting for around town driving I wouldn't want to be in one and get hit by an F250 on the highway

ah - the fear factor. I would never choose my ride based on the concept of being hit as it would greatly reduce every car I am interested in owning I am more afraid of the people who drive Suburbans who claim to be afraid.

No fear, just being practical. I'm not sure where "Surf's Up" is located, but around here I'm surrounded by teenagers in giant trucks and 80 year olds in giant luxury cars, and neither group are very good drivers

As my primary commuting car is a Miata I can only guess this would be safer. I did see one on the road a week or so ago and it is tiny. Seems a lot smaller than a Mini Cooper even. Still a lot safer than a motorcycle and at least the Fiat will keep all the parts together for burial. My son will be driving in two years and I can guarantee I would not put him in a Fiat.

Still the point of the Fiat 500 is cheap, fast and reliable and for my primary car this may fit the bill. I keep a Minivan and an old SUV with a utility trailer around for other tasks but I really don't like driving them. If the convertible version comes to the states with at fast engine in it I would probably consider it. (Diesel? Please... How could I get out of the way of the F250 trying to kill me)

Depends on the diesel. VW/Audi had some MORE than capable diesels.

Sooo... If my quick search is right, the Abarth costs about these same (maybe more?) than a V6 Mustang, with about half the horsepower, not that much better fuel economy and nowhere near the space?

yeah, what's with the teens in giant trucks thing? A 17 year old girl in a gigantic pickup truck ripped the side off our Toyota Celica in a parking lot, 'cause the truck was obviously too big for her to handle.
