How hard is it to get three USB-UIRT's working?

Hello,

I'm in Vancouver, BC and Shaw Cable is finally going all digital, so I will be needing STB's for all channels I record.

(until now they had about 57 channels on analog cable, so I could just use an analog cable tuner for them and use two STB's for the rest)

I picked up a DCT6200 today and found out firestb doesn't work on Windows 7 64-bit, so I can't use that for tuning ... without reformatting and setting up SageTV again ...

I was curious how many USB-UIRTS people have working with SageTV and how easy they were to set up?

Thanks for your time,
Bobby

1 USB-UIRT can control up to 3 set top boxes.

That depends. If u r using say 3 dct6200 or what were u said u had, and those remotes has he ability to run off of different or codes then u could use just the front or for all three boxes and still have "2 zones" left. Each zone could control more than 1 device as well.

I currently have a dishvip322 and both tv1 and tv2 are controlled is different it codes blasted out of the front it em miter on the usbuirt.

And some more info here for the multi USBUIRT dll and the rename utility,

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...86&postcount=6

I have also attached my working ir files using two USBUIRT's (all three zones on USBUIRT #1 and the main zone only on USBUIRT #2)

I'm on Shaw also and had to give up firewire with Win7 64bit as well.

MotorolaDCT2000_1 to Motorola DCT2000_3 are using the first USBUIRT and all three zones (Z1, Z2, Z3 in the files) for the first three boxes.

MotorolaDCT2000_4 is using the renamed USBUIRT #2 and the "main" zone for the fourth box.

It does takes some monkeying around to get the right HDPVR associated with the right zone etc...

If you are going to use zones you will need a stereo 1/8" to L/R splitter from Radioshack and a couple of IR emitters to use the other zones.

I also put shields over the emitters to keep them from inadvertently changing the other boxes that are close by.

Good luck.

I might be going to eight set top boxes (I like padding) and all my motorola STB's use the same IR codes (DCT-2514 and DCT-6200).
So it looks like I will need a minimum of three USB-UIRT's (I have two currently)

Currently I have a USB-UIRT and was controlling two DCT-2514 STB's and I have a DCT-6200 I am testing from the front blaster ... not working so well unless I turn the USB-UIRT around away from the hand held remote. (maybe a small dental mirror for the hand held remote on that one?)

How hard is it to wire an IR Blaster to the front emitter in a USB-UIRT?

I have a ten pack of IR-emitters coming from Smarthome as well as five 3.5mm stereo to RCA mono L/R adapters from Deal Extreme on the way.
(I hope the Deal Extreme ones are as advertised and if they arrive too late I may be trying to find a Radio Shack in Vancouver, BC, Canada)

I can't find in any of the DCT-6200 manuals information about changing the codes the STB responds to ... so a maximum of three boxes for each USB-UIRT.

I'm on Windows 7 64bit, so I will have to reinstall windows if I wanted to try firewire and the firestb drivers for channel changing.
I have a spare 32GB SSD that might work that I could try Windows 7 32bit on (I got the prepaid windows 7 32/64 pack, uggghhh)

Graywolf and Jorton I'll check out those threads, I'll have to wait for the IR-Emitters and splitters to arrive to proceed much further.

When I was setting up my STB's I would only turn on one at a time connect it ... and for testing IR-blasting I would go to Setup / Setup Video Sources / choose the tuner / Color Calibration and then use the roller ball on the mouse to change channels.

Thanks for everyones time, and I'll let everyone know how things work out ...

Bobby
