4. Maybe this type of project isn't for you and you should buy a Tivo if it is too challenging

P.S. when is the next update?

It's a remote desktop system ala Windows Remote Desktop or Xwindows (kind of)

VNC is like PCAnywhere. It lets you connect to the desktop and control it as if you have a VGA monitor connected. Unlike Remote Desktop, VNC doesn't log the main output off when you connect. That is why it is used by so many of us.
The only downside is, it eats alot of CPU while you are connected, so your video gets jerky etc.... So only use it for administration.

There are different versions and variations of VNC out there (tightVNC, VNC, UltraVNC). I have tried them all and the UltraVNC is the best--it eats less CPU and is much more navigable and less susseptible to freezes than the standard VNC. Its great that it doesn't log you out like remote desktop--that was getting annoying.

ok sorry but this is going to take four posts

I have updated the default 2 icons
with some new and better fitting icons
and modified the TV to get rid of the stupid clouds

I hope you will update this to your default 2 icons folder (mlbdude)
everyone let me know what you think

you need to download all five to get all the new icon updated icons

number 5 is just for a change I did to the TV icon after posting the others four folders

remember after you download these and unzip them
put all the pictures in the mlbdude default 2 folder
and either move the old pictures or overwrite them when you move the new pictures in there

Sorry to do this but I went and changed the TV icon one more time
the change is small so do not worry about it if you do not want to downlaod this as well

but this gives people that justwant the TV without the clouds a chance to just download this instead of the other four

this is for the updated TV icon
again

As for mlbdude being touchy, I'd say he has a right to be. This isn't the first time you've complained about his and the other volunteer contributors work being hard to install. Really, you need to adjust your expectations. These people are in no way affiliated with Frey. They don't make any money off their work. They do it because they enjoy it and are kind enough to share their work. Also, you'd be amazed at how far the words "please", "thank you", and "great job!" go in the world.

t
Complained? I merely asked for an alternate method of a program that he created. As far as THAT goes, HE as well as the other "chosen few" b should have known going in that the second they decided to go public there would be requests. My request only request of mlbdude was shot down as he told me I would have to wait for Studio to come out and do it myself. (I wanted JUST his mini-guide, not the entire skin) Since these people are doing this FOR THEMSELVES first (They are doing what THEY feel they want, feature wise) we all must either like their work, and not critisize or request anything? Think again. Frey Technologies has promised us results on this program for such a long time, and are constantly pushing dates back. They list this great web site and forum as "technical support" along with thier email support. So as a CONSUMER who purchaced a product, with a promise it would be customizable, I want support, which I am not getting. I'm very sorry that it puts mlbdude or others in the hot seat, but they are the ones with the toys that should be in MY hands, either that or I should have never been told about them until it was released. (When I say MY hands, I mean the PUBLIC)

My arguement isn't with mlbdude or anyone else PERSONALLY. If you look at my posts, even the ones fueling this debate, you will see I DO PRAISE them for thier work. PERIOD.

I like maybe 60% of the changes I see with these skins, the rest I can do without. So just as a request, WHY CAN"t I requiest they make it MODULAR? Is this complaing? I didn't think so. Last I read, there were no rules that said I can't post a request, or comment on what I see as counterproductive.

I see there are steps being taken to simplify things and such, as a CONSUMER If these skins were published today, they would FLOP on the market. NO ONE would endorse such software in such a scattered way. I think they should be looking at teh complete package and how it will impcat the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR- THE CONSUMER, the AVERAGE CONSUMER...LIKE ME.

Your right, I'm not a SAGE enthusiest, but that doesn't mean I don't want the same features you do, I just want them or need them in a more polished way, as my time and ability to tweak and gather 50 different weg sites and instructions and put together some logical order of install to maximize my success. SAGE said STUDIO would be available, again, and again.

How about this, I'll end this topic here, we can all forget about it, and I will try and ask my questions in a more pleasant way as to not disturb anyones emotions? We can agree to disagree.

Deal?

nice icons, but I noticed that I have both the default and default 2 folders in my sage folder. How do I tell sage to use default 2. When I started using the weather add on I noticed that I wasn't getting the images--because they were only in the default 2 folder so I coppied them to the default and they showed up--leading me to believe I am only using the default folder.

Are you referring to having to type in a password as a result of installing .Net? If so you are confused with the .Net signon that MS tried to get everybody to sign up for, with an architecture which was not released until last year as final. There is no sign on related to that.
I had to install a ".NET" protocal or something to run myHTPC. After I did this, EVERYTIME I booted my PC, I had to select my little picture in Windows XP to LOG ON to the PC. This was un-acceptable as I'd have to get a mouse and so forth. Also and more importantly, if the PC crashes and reboots while I'm not there, it's set to lauch SAGE automatically at startup. If I'm not home, and it hangs, then SAGE will never start, and I loose recordings and such.

I was instructed to install several loggon softwares to automatically log me on, but again, I WANT A SIMPLE SOLUTION. The less software I have on my PC, the more stable it is, the EASIER it will be to rebuild should I need to upgrade or repair and re-setup.

All you have to do is remove that .Net user from your system.

Or turn off the welcome screen and run "control userpasswords2" as set one of the accounts to auto logon.

favorite name

When I choose a timeslot for a show (say 11pm) the following gets added to the favorite's name...

2^23

So, for "Action News" it shows up as...

"Action News 2^23" in my Favorites listing.

Obviously the 23 is military time. Is that how it's supposed to show up?

Thanks
