Sage messed up my PC time!

I'm pretty sure Sage messed up my PC's time this afternoon!

It was "slow" by about an hour (no, not exactly an hour).
Time zone DST etc.. were still correct so I reset the clock manually.

Missed the evening news.... an a minor afternoon flick. At least that's all it messed up (cause I discovered the problem).

I think I'm going to disable Sage's Sync-to-Sage-timeserver! There should be a watchdog system that disables Sage's time server if the other (watchdog) server is out of sync.

Anyway instead I'll use the trustworthy Dimension4 to sync to the Naval Observatory clock. I've never had a problem with Dimension4 or that time server. Another nice thing about Dimension4 is you can limit the amount of correction -- so if something is wacky, it won't change the time dramatically. Sage should do something similar..... (and it's freeware).

Mine was off this afternoon too! I didn't check it close enough to see how far off it was, but instead just ran a sync against my server.

Same here. Time was about an hour behind. Wxited Sage, ran time synchro, then restarted Sage and all seems to be fine now.

Yep, same here. The forum seemed to be down for much of the day and many documents from the main Frey site didn't seem to work, so maybe the problems are related?

It happened to me too - it happened about 6:30 p.m. central - the time got set back to around 5:30 p.m. I was testing some things out this afternoon so I noticed it right away.

You can also you Windows XP to do time sync. You don't need any other software. There are two sources it can get the time.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We are currently working on the issue. A quick fix until this is resolved is go to Detailed Setup -> General and disable “Sync System Clock with SageTV Server”. Then change your system clock to the correct time. You can use this website. http://www.time.gov/index.html Get it as close as possible to the correct time you can.

Again we apologize.

I wish I had done that. I went to bed and it was fine, I woke up and all my recordings were off by an hour.

Would you let us know when this is resolved so we can turn the clock sync back on, if we decide to risk it again? I see that the forum time is back to normal, so does that mean the EPG server is too?

BTW -- how often does SageTV sync the time? Just when it updates the EPG?

I know Windows has it built in & updates daily... maybe I'll go back to one of my utilities that updates the clock more often.

Really? I didn't even shut Sage down, just changed windows back to the correct time and it's been fine since. Not sure why, but it worked.

I use a util that runs as a service to set the time on my PCs. It's far superior to the WinXP included. Can choose your time server and how often to set etc.

Based on the previous failure, why would you want to? I mean, ntp servers are a dime a dozen on the internet.

Actually there not a dime a dozen, they're free!

I believe there may be a misconception that syncing with Sage Server will somehow mean programs start at the specified time. Guess what, 'taint gonna happen all to often. I don't care how accurate your time is the stations will start programs more or less around a given time, based on THEIR time, not any official atomic clock time. And that can and does vary from station to station. Hence I just have timesync service config'd to sysnc time every 15min. Why 15min? No reason, just keeps my PCs the most accurate clocks in the house. And that is also why the ability to pad recordings is built into Sage.

Check your XP doc's, XP's built in automatic time sync is once a week not once a day. Another reason I use the timesyn service app...

Yeah, I misread the "next update" date/time.

I went back to using the "1st Clock" utility I already had, but there are certainly a lot of them out there.

Opened my own thread because 'time' returned too many values. I don't have the off by an hour type of issue, but seemed to be 30+ secs off, so Frey has probably improved from the earlier versions.

For those interested, NIST (gov't standards) publishes a free TCP time sync program that's a small reliable flexible utility. It can be found at:
http://www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/service/its.htm

Sorry for the extra thread. Thanks for the help mdmint.
