Screenshots of the upcoming GoogleTV 2.0 look like it uses sageTV technology?
I'm sorry if someone already posted about this. I just thought I'd see if anyone can tell from the screenshots in the link below if the upcoming Google TV (in weeks from now) will use core sageTV technology.

It looks like what was shown at the Google I/O 2011 in June, before SageTV was purchased... Mostly makes uses of the "action bar" and "dashboard" design patterns...

Since it doesn't appear to have any DVR function, I'd say no. Also, way too soon to see anything from the SageTV acquisition.

Another short article on it. I wouldn't expect to see any SageTV DVR like features released before next summer, if ever. It's still not clear to me how they would release such a media-storing feature. Would a TV really function as a server? I think it would have to be a separate box. Unless we're talking cloud based storage, which being a tech-dinosaur, doesn't interest me that much.
Though if I'm in the market for a new TV soon, this might get me to pick up one of the Sony's as a potential GoogleTV playback unit.

To over-simplify it; you "record" your show locally, but all that really happens is a fingerprint of the recorded show is generated, giving you access to stream Google's "cloud recorded", or possibly even "crowd recorded" version. |

Here's a good article that explains Google TV and what to expect in Google TV 2.0. More hardware partners are coming too.

Yep, that's what I meant by cloud based.

From what I have seen of the GoogleTV API, and read, you can't even play a file from the local network, which has been done on purpose to "prevent piracy"... So that puts some serious constraints on a SageTV integration...

GoogleTV++
http://content.usatoday.com/communit...gle-tv-redux/1
Announced today, the new version of Google TV attempts to smooth some rough edges. "The home UI (user interface) of the main product was too complicated; the navigation was not simple enough," says Mario Queiroz, VP of product management at Google. "We really wanted it to be very simple to help you get to Netflix, YouTube or Pandora." Google is trying to bring all manner of Web videos, apps and network programming into one place to house "millions" of TV channels and make navigation simple. The Google TV update is based on the company's Honeycomb version of Android, also used in tablet computers. It attempts to simplify some of the previous version's screen clutter of icons populating the TV, placing a neat row of icons at bottom. It now appears more like Apple TV in terms of simple, minimalist, less is more, layout. Google has also worked to improve its content search for programming across live TV, Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO and other destinations. YouTube has been baked into Google TV better, the company says. It's intended to make it easier to find HD programming on YouTube within Google TV. With Honeycomb, Google has opened up the Google TV platform for app developers to port existing mobile apps to the TV or develop new ones. * merged * |

I'm very curious to know if Netflix content really is integrated wtih search results; the last time that was tried (via Boxee software over 18 months ago), Netflix requested that search and other Netflix content / integrated aspects be removed...
And if so, if it was done with Netflix's knowledge or not

Yes I've seen that, but they're basically itching a ride on some other web server/media server...

It was announced/demoed at the Google I/O 2011 back in June, weeks before the acquisition became official...
