Looking for an Industrial Grade Network Switch
I'm looking for a switch with a high temperature rating because the switch will be placed in an attic...........only possible location.
I found the following switch (Intellinet 24 port Gigabit switch) and wonder how it compares in performance and reliability to the loved Procurve switches? The switch has a temperature rating of 32° to 131°F, which will be sufficient. There are other real industrial switches with even higher temperature ratings, but they are a fortune. Any other good affordable switches with a high temperature range? http://cableorganizer.com/intellinet...hernet-switch/ Thanks, Greg |

Paul,
Thanks for the link. The temp of this switch is a maximum of 104°F, which is similar to most other consumer grade switches. I know my attic can easily exceed that. So I'm concerned............I don't want to have to chance it and then possibly have to replace it. Thanks, Greg |

Is it remotely possible that you could somehow place the switch near the ceiling of a closet or something? Then run the wires up into the attic for dispersal. That way you could keep the switch out of the attic extremes...

Thought about that, but I have no electric in those areas.
How are the Netgear Prosafe switches? The temperature rating is 32° to 122°F.....would like a higher temp, but that might be OK. Thanks, Greg |

Now that they've worked out most of the bugs in the firmware they're pretty stable. The web GUI is still very slow, however.

It's looking like Netgear is the only affordable choice right now. That Intellinet switch that I linked to appears to have an erroneous temp spec stated by Cableorganizer............the Intellinet site states only 104°F.
Some of the HP Procurve switches are rated to 113°F. There is one switch that is rated to 131°F.........HP 2910 series, but it's over $1000! I found other industrial switches, but most are quite costly. Thanks, Greg |

If you have an AC outlet in your attic that you were planning on using you could extend another outlet off of it with a run or romex to bring it closer to your ideal location. That wouldn't cost much either. I personally wouldn't trust any switch in my attic. Plus, it gets pretty cold up there in the winter...

i use a netgear 24port 10/100/1000 unmanaged switch that works very nicely.
