Argh! Sage Crashing
Hello All!
I hope everyone hade a great Holiday Weekend! Thanks to Opus4 for pointing out the Holiday for me the other night! No disrespect to our veterans intended, sometimes I forget that a lot of people leave town on three day weekends. I actually have multiple issues here and I am not sure what might be causing them. I am listing them in the order that they began to appear. My system is a P3 633 with 576MB Ram and a Hauppauge PVR-350. I realize that this is a minimal processor for this setup but it typically runs between 2-20% CPU ussage since I am only running Sage on it with a single tuner/capture card. Also this was a clean, new install of Win2k last week with all updates and SP4 applied, with WMP 9.0 installed. 1) Everything seemed to be working fine and then the remote would stop working after a few minutes (somewhere between 15-60 minutes). I checked the monitor and the Sage window was grayed out (inactive) even though no other applications were running (other than the IR remote). I can get the remote to work again by clicking in the Sage window on the PC monitor with the mouse (usually) 2) Shortly after this began happening, I began to experience sudden crashes of Sage. The system doesn't hang or anything like that, Sage just quits. No warnings, no other system problems, just BLAM! Sage is gone!!! This problem didn't start until a couple of days ago and I made a couple of changes that may (or may not) be contributing to it. First, I disabled the "Intelligent Recording" because it was destroying my hard drive space with a bunch of crap that I didn't want to watch, secondly I changed the video playback option from Default to Intervideo Non CSS or whatever that option is. Also, Sometimes without any input at all from me the main menu will pop up. 3) I have yet to get it to play a DVD. I can see the hardware recognition that there is a disk in the drive but I tell Sage to play it and it seems like it acknowledges that there is a DVD present but nothing happens beyond that. Given that I have never actually seen Sage play a DVD I do not know how it should respond. 4) I have an Nvidia card with S-Video out in addition to the PVR-350's video out. I would like to be able to use the video out optio to view the windows screen on the TV by using an AV switch. I have yet to get the TV out to work so I can ditch the monitor and just use the AV switch to toggle back and forth. Has anyone had a similar problem? I had this system working via the TV out prior to installing the PVR-350. Any comments on any of these problems are appreciated! Many Thanks in advance!!! If you have 3D acceleration enabled, try disabling it. (Happened to me today after 3D accel got turned back on somehow.) Is this a trial version, or a fully registered version of SageTV? Quote:
Hope some of that helps... - Andy

Thanks Andy, see my replies below...

You could tun multiple encoders w/o a problem. The hardware encoding doesn't put much strain on your cpu. And, if you use the 350's hardware output, decoding won't strain it much either. Wouldn't much matter since I only have one DirectTV receiver. quote:1) Everything seemed to be working fine and then the remote would stop working after a few minutes (somewhere between 15-60 minutes). I can get the remote to work again by clicking in the Sage window on the PC monitor with the mouse (usually) For some reason, Windows focus is switching to something else -- what else is running that is grabbing focus?? If you do al Alt-Tab, what else is shown, anything? If you are using the Hauppauge remote, you can chekc the links in my sig (below) to find out how to control SageTV w/o needing focus. I'll check that out! quote:2) Shortly after this began happening, I began to experience sudden crashes of Sage. The system doesn't hang or anything like that, Sage just quits. No warnings, no other system problems, just BLAM! Sage is gone!!! Do you get any hs_err_pid###.log files in your SageTV directory? There are no*.log files, period. If you have 3D acceleration enabled, try disabling it. (Happened to me today after 3D accel got turned back on somehow.) I tried enableing 3D acceleration and it wouldn't let me. Given that I have never actually seen Sage play a DVD I do not know how it should respond. Are you trying to play the DVD through the 350? The 350 can't play encrypted DVDs. Yes I was trying to play the DVD through the 350 since I cant get the Nvidia TV-out to work but it shouldn't be encrypted, it is a program that I recorded with Sage and then burned to DVD with my other system. Hope some of that helps... P.S. Can you tell me how to quote stuff like you did to make this look cleaner? - Andy Quote:

You just surround the text you want to quote with the quote tag like this:
[ QUOTE] This is a quote[ /QUOTE] (only without the spaces) Which results in this: Quote:

Thanks Andy,
I wouldn't be as far as I am without your assistance! Hopefully I can get to the bottom of these issues because I would like nothing better than to get it working properly! John |
