Phoenix Build 404

Build 2.3.404 (and phoenix-core 2.3.4) has been posted.

This build contains a couple new enhancements...
1) Music support in Phoenix UI. You've seen the video demo... now you can try it out for yourself.
2) Phoenix-Core has support for downloading music fanart (artist only at this time). Keep in mind the new Music UI does not use this fanart at this time and the this support is really beta. Over time we'll add full support for album and artist fanart.
3) I fixed a number of small issues in the fanart apis that were introduced as a result of the previous build.
4) Fixed a small issue with the imdb provider
5) Added a new Group By First Letter in TItle grouper
6) Added contributed filters for Partially watched and Recently watched

Additional Changes:

1) Fixed all known instances of 'Play' not working when a playable item is selected.
2) Added setting in EPG to set the alpha level of the color coding by category - if you want to see the colors more clearly you can bump this up.
3) Miniguide navigation can be inverted so that up is down and down is up
4) Opening a browser from Box and Vertical landing zone wasn't setting the title of the browser to the user specified title - fixed this. If you have some customized sort / groupings applied and you use these landing zones, you might have to reapply.
5) Everytime you com back to the landing zone the views will be reloaded - this might give a small performance hiccup, but and View menus you have in the landing zone (Like New Movies) should stay up to date.
6) Spacing in the Recording Activity for Cross/Horiz landing zones fixed.
7) Added option to do a blind comskip jump (instead of displaying the timebar first)

btl.

Can't wait to install this when I get back. Did you guys also resolve the ffw/rrw weirdness (not as smooth) that was introduced in 403?

Love the Music so far. Found it very intuitive.

Can you let me know where Parental Controls are on the development list? I just found out my 7 year old watched about 10 minutes of "Your Highness". I can't blame her really, the cover looks like a family movie that I might have got for her. If the parental controls are a way out I think I am going to have to drop Phoenix for a while, which I am going to miss greatly.

I think parental controls are something we will tackle soon. In the meantime I think you could create views that filter out items based on rating to keep the questionable content hidden. I'll play with the views some and post an example if I can get one working.

Running into 2 problems as I continue to get Phoenix configured:

1) Having a problem with a gradient effect that is displayed when the video OSD (timebar) is showing. Rather than just covering the lower part of the window that the timebar is on, pretty much the entire window has the gradient. I've played with the option in Global Configuration to change the Alpha color, which gets me a different color gradient, but it still covers the entire video while displayed. Only when the timebar times out and disappears can I see any video.

2)Trying to configure the display of Home Movies. I set up a folder on the sage server with a couple of family videos. Then, I went into Global configuration for Home Movies and entered a UNC path to the folder on the server. (I haven't entered any "category" for Home Videos though, is that required?) Yet, when I go to Memories->Home Videos, I keep getting a message that nothing is there to display, and asking if I want to try a different view. Any idea where I'm going wrong?

Thanks in advance...

I should have mentioned that I'm running all PC clients, no extenders.

That makes it a bit easier to troubleshoot actually. Get a screen shot of #1 - that effect does cover the entire window, but it should be barely visible the higher up you get. Try setting the alpha value to about 50 and see how that looks.

My home video directory is this in BMT (without the quotes) "\\hogwarts\homevideos"

Here's the screen shot, with alpha set to 50.

So do you see video once the OSD fades? Or is that just a byproduct of video not showing up in screen shots?

This is what mine looks like at 50 :

What you see in the screen shot is exactly what I see while the OSD is displayed. Yes, once the OSD is gone, I see the video. While the OSD is displayed, I sometimes see a small sliver of the video at the top (maybe 15-20% of the window).

The only time I've ever seen anything like that is with the video mode on the client set to "OVERLAY".

You can try the 'subtitle' friendly time bar and see if that is any better - it takes up less of the screen.

Yes, I was set on Overlay. Unfortunately, Overlay plays best on my client. VMR is kinda choppy. If Phoenix is designed to work best with VMR, then I need to find drivers/filters that work better with VMR.

On my other issue with Home Videos, I point to a directory with videos, but the Home Videos "view" doesn't "see" them. If I change the folder for Home Videos to point to where I have ripped DVDs, it sees those fine. Is there some requirement about the directory hierarchy or contents, or some kind of metadata that needs to be present before the Home Videos "view" will see some videos? I just dropped a couple of .mpg files in the folder, and thought they would show up if I pointed to that folder.

There isn't any requirement on home video folders that I am aware of - once you tell Phoenix where they are, it should automatically find them.

Finally solved my problem with Home Videos directory - even though they are on the server, and I could see them in windows explorer from the client by entering \\servername\foldername, I had to stop trying to use my \\servername\foldername as the folder in Phoenix, and instead use \\localhost\foldername. Then, suddenly I could see the videos.
