VFS question
Is it possible to take 2 views with different grouping and combine them into 1 single list with retention of their individual grouping options set in each discreet view?
Essentially, I’d like to take 1 flatter structure and marry it to another one that has an additional drill down level. I can’t apply the 3rd level to the whole view because it’s undesirable for the rest of my shows. I really only want the grouping options for one show and I don’t want to have a separate vfs and menu item for that 1 show. From my preliminary tests I have come up with a solution that is 95% there. I have 2 separate views with my desired grouping/presentation levels assigned to each. They perform as desired. Then I have a 3rd view that combines the other two. This is where I run into a snafu. Both views are there but they reside in their own root folders and I have to drill into each separately. I’m hoping I can somehow take the results of each view and merge them into 1 single list... Any ideas are welcome. |

If I can get it to work with Phoenix... I did my vfs testing in BMT and had everything performing as I wanted and now when I moved the vfs into Phoenix things got a little dicey... I hope I can get the details ironed out and then i can show something

The best thing I can suggest for this would be to get a view that has the basic folder structure that you want, but without the Genre grouping. Then in Phoenix browse down to the level you want grouped by Genre, and apply that grouping from the UMB. As long as you have the View Customization set to 'Sticky' it should remember.

I'm not sure I follow 100%. I set my configs to sticky and pulled up the action menu on Looney Tunes. Then I go to the Grouped By and it says NONE. If I click it I only get an option to Clear. There seems to be no preset group by options. Is that something that is default or is this something that needs to be built? I actually didn't know those options were even working.

Do you have any tags in your view? I think it shows the groupers that share a tag with the view.....

Yep, that was it. I didn't have the tags in my view. That works really slick. I wish I would have known before.

You need to update the 'genre' grouper to be this :
Code:
<item name="genre" label="Genre" class="sagex.phoenix.vfs.groups.GenreGrouper"> <tag value="tv" /> <tag value="video" /> <tag value="simple"/> </item>

Using the sticky sorts, groups and filters is awesome! I can't believe that I've not noticed those features... This makes manipulating views very easy and nearly infinitely customizable. I'm going to mourn the day this all comes to an end
![]() I haven't said it enough but you guys rock! Phoenix is truly a great piece of work. I hope Google is taking notes ![]() |
