I don't know about this... my dual cpu system already makes me feel like I'm at the airport... I'm not sure I want something trying even harder to mimic a jet engine!

I saw the pisture and imediately thought about making a joke about that board using Intel's Prescott core. I then actually followed the link and saw that it truelly was referring to a Prescott.
All I can say is I'm glad I checked the Intel Wattage usage chart for the different P4's before I made my decision. The equivalent Prescott to my P4 2.8C uses considerably more wattage. ~70 Watts to ~90 Watts. The most desturbing thing is the fact that Prescott's can actually run hotter when in a lower load condition. Due to the smaller pathes used in the new process, the transistors can actaully leak more current in their "off" state than used in their "on" state. Darn, quantum mechanics and electron tunnelling. Oh, how I miss Newton's deterministic universe. PS:My emense thanks to all the people who provided great advice on building a quiet HTPC. I'm so happy with my Antec Sonata case, I ordered another to replace my old(nonHTPC) system's noisy case(with it's total of 3 loud 80cm fans). Last edited by justme; 06-02-2004 at 01:21 AM. |
