If there is any change of support from Jeff i would change my tune, but. Thus far there definitely isnt. As before, this is the best place to get help and support for your SageTV setup. And it continues to maintain a great deal of valuable info here.

The forum administration and monitoring continues to be supported as well.
I agree, but a number of people were requesting a woobie to help them through this. For those people, they now have a place to start compiling whatever they feel is important. It may seem too soon, but better to be early than late*.

Can you elaborate. While there was some talk of this, I missed anyone having said "OK, I have a backup." I'd certainly rest easier knowing that Mike (or someone else ready & able to host forums) had ready access to this.

As of right now there are about 3 or 4 "alternate" forums that were set up - none of which are being used much thus far. At least one person "backed up" the forums when there was some uncertainty. But at this point that is unnecessary as the forum moderator is being paid to moderate, the forum hosting is paid for and we know for certain the forums will remain at least for a year after the purchase - and probably longer.

It's great that others including MR are offering to host forums, but for now (as I said before) there is no reason to stop using these forums right here. There should be a single place for SageTV users to go for help, info etc and this forum continues to be that place.

seeing as we have no idea what google has planned

1- best case - open source goodness

2- worst case - google brand dvr box with a cut down sage software

I think a backup of the forum would be good. A lot of the stuff is too old to be relevant, but there is still a lot of useful info here and keeping sage as we know it alive would be good ( assuming google doesn't release something better ).

If the files and pics were on other servers ie free clouds with only the text on the sage backup server it wouldn't be too bad on bandwidth. the most users ever were 6,103 ( on 08-03-2011 at 09:55 PM ). I wouldn't object to a few ads either as long as they aren't too intrusive. just to keep things rolling along.

the thing is it might be a total unneccasry idea as google might just make sage better and keep this forum ( although I just can't bring myself to believe that) .
However the forum is a valuable resource and information that is valuable should have a back up.

Thank you for summing this up in one sentence!

Now, how do we make this happen?

Capturing Fora?

These fora are a valuable resource for SageTV users.

Does anybody see a need to archive the contents of these fora against the day when Google pulls the plug?

Even if Google resurrected Sage, putting myself in the shoes of a product manager, I'd want the old fora to go away to reduce any proliferation of the prior incarnation of SageTV.

I would think that the best case scenario would be back-populating those new fora with posts from the old going back "n" years - and then an active campaign to steer people away from the Google fora and towards the new fora.

That way we would be accumulating new wisdom in the right place.

Either that, or scrape the old fora every week or so and, when Google pulls the plug, migrate the scrapings into the new fora then.

Think it through. Gold backed currency solves nothing.
It solves the problem of politicians taking actions to get themselves re-elected but causing undue inflation in the process.

By "undue inflation" I mean a decrease in a dollar's purchasing power in excess of the usual 2-3% per year.

Speaking as one who pays for their own groceries, it looks to me like it is well under way - the book-cookers notwithstanding.

If I am wrong, it won't be the first time - and I really, *really* hope I'm wrong.
