Code:
I've never been able to successfully tune a channel not listed on that page.
The entire page was blank at http://x.x.x.x/lineup.xml

After the soft reboot it was entirely filled.

Note the log file from the Prime had all the channel subscription info in it...

And everything was definitely working as was without that populated... only symptom was on re-tune boundaries.

I will check when I get home tonight to see whether the reboot / population solved the problem

Code:
The warning that you get from SageDCT is informational only, it still
asks the DCT to tune it even if it's not in its list (the list is primarily used
 for "scanning" in SageTV).
I did not run a channel scan inside SageTV (I did do one in the HDHR config). In SageTV I simply manually configured a channel guide (enabled channels) which seemed to work. Should I have run a channel scan?

Quote:
But when I was seeing those errors a couple months ago, it was because the channel list on my CableCard would only be partially intact on occasion. It was a bug in the SiliconDust firmware that was the problem which they've since fixed.
I am still running the 20120405 firmware. I know there are several bug fixes like the IGMP multicast problem I discovered that have been fixed. But when I went to install the software it would not run on Windows 2003R2 because it currently has a DLL build problem.

It sounds like you have gone ahead an manually loaded/upgraded the firmware to the latest beta. I suppose I should do that too... has it made your system better or worse? a little reluctant to upgrade to a beta firmware when no downgrade is possible. let me know your thoughts.

I've never experienced that condition either. I'm surprised that it worked at all

No. I got sick of all the "I scanned for channels and..." posts, so I faked it

I almost always load the latest beta firmware. Pretty sure I'm n-1 right now, but just because I haven't had a chance to load up the one that came out EOW.

That is what I look for - to be a trailblazer, NOT!

I remoted into home and checked the log file... sure enough the problem is still there despite the channel listing being fully populated at the Prime.

I went ahead and turned on verbose log. Will let that gather some info for you before I go and just upgrade the firmware. You never know it might help us diagnose something...

I cannot get the last two beta updates to run after installing on WHS v1. Does it install OK, but will not run the executables? Do you get an error that the executables are not valid executables after install? Just good to hear this was just not me.

WHS v1 is a stripped down version of Windows 2003 R2 server. All these share the same XP kernel.

This is the same problem. The only thing to do right now is manually update the firmware for the Prime by loading the old 20120405 software, separately downloading the latest Beta firmware - only, and then manually updating.

like sflamm said, it's a build issue. The latest Microsoft build tools, which SiliconDust just started to use, have dropped XP kernel support.

If this is going to be an issue for anyone here please let SD know as they are discussing how to proceed with future releases.

The more people let them know this is going to mess them over the more likely I won't have to upgrade to Windows 7 any time soon.

I am assuming all I have to do is give it a path to the vlc.exe file, but I cannot get that to work. SageTV just halts when I do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You know I had the same problem I could not get it to work. I am using a 64 bit sagedct and 32 bit VLC I wonder if that is the problem. VLC would start then disappear after a while. My client would just hang on tuning.

Does the file that vlc is asked to create appear?

I don't see the full sage recording life cycle in there, how are you testing?

Can you try from the SageDCT config tool?

Platform compilation isn't an issue because they are in different processes.

I am testing using SageTV and asking it to play Live TV, and it just hangs with VLC enabled. I will try again and look for the file it is trying to create. How do I test from the config tool? Thanks.

When you say that SageTV hangs, do you mean the UI process stops working?

There's a tab in the config tool that lets you send commands to the SageDCT tuner. In this case you want to send a "START" command w/ a valid channel and file path. Don't forget to send a "STOP" when done.

There's a lot going on there that I don't understand.

Do you have virus SW running on the system?

When trying to play Live TV on one of my extenders or Placeshiter I get the spinning circle and have to shut off and turn back on the extender to get it to "unhang," and I have to shut down (close out) Placeshifter and restart it to get it to "unhang." The UI becomes unresponsive and never comes back. The instance connecting to the server has to restarted to get out of the "hang."

OK, it looks like I may have figured out my issue, at least in limited testing but so far it is infinitely better results. I tried using the SageDCT test method mentioned by babgvant, and that worked . I was not exactly sure why, but hey it did. Then I tested in SageTV several times, all with the same results I had gotten many times before, SageTV UI hangs/unusable. Then I put 2 + 2 together and realized the difference in how I ran the test in SageDCT and how I am using SageTV is UNC paths. I had my recording and import paths set using UNC paths, but I used the actual path when testing SageDCT. So, I changed my recording path to the actual path and it works (so far, but I have not tested the channels that stopped working recently with the Comcast issue). babgvant, I know I had read in this thread that you said we should not use UNC paths, but your comment addressed a different problem I was not experiencing. Any who, I will test some more, but so far it looks like changing from UNC to actual paths fixed my VLC problem. Thanks for all of the help, and I will let you know if I see any issues pop up after more testing. Thanks.
