What are ppl using to archive shows!?

Hiya..

I am reasonably clued in on the whole transcoding lark.. I played with divx5 a year or two ago and was quite comfortable using gordian knot as described at doom9.org to convert dvds... I've since got a dvd-r burner and so have had a play at making copies for this format... including full reencoding and menu generation to the current favourite of using dvdshrink to make them fit at least 10x faster...

I am using dvd standard quality at the moment as i do watch tv on my projector sometimes and i can spot the difference... i have plenty of space for immediate shows... the thing is for anything i want to keep its a little bit high..

I was thinking either latest divx, or something similar to dvdshrink of transcoding it down... or full recompress... what programs are people using for this.. I've seen posts about possible sync problems with people cutting out commericals etc...

Thanks
