Problem playing sage created files
hey, I just noticed a problem I am having--actually two:
1. When I record a program in Sage and then try to play it back in Media Player and/or DivX player--there is a fuzzy green stripe along the bottom. In Media Player it says that it cannot find the correct codecs---but it does play the file (but the playlist indicatess it is broken by having the type be in red with !!!. What codecs am I missing to play back Sage files--I didn't think I needed anything else. However, the programs I record play fine in Sage... 2. Second question (and this might relate to the first): I had everything set up working but had to reinstall the software because I changed a setting in the properties and couldn't get it back to the original. So, on the second install, it would not let me install the MPEG decoder software from the disk (I bought the Rosylyn package). It says that it "could not load DLL library C:\Windows\system32\hcwpnp32.dll not found. So, the only video and software settings I can use is my Cyberlink ones---the default and Intervideo ones do not work. I also tried installing from their site--same result. They both worked before. It works fine with the cyberlink settings but what happened? I tried to restore my system but it wouldn't let me. I also completely removed the Hauppauge drivers and all the software and reinstalled everything a bunch of times but I am getting the same results. Any thoughs. Maybe this relates to the first question??? maybe not? Thanks so much JUC Last edited by JUC; 05-30-2004 at 05:31 PM. |

well do not use system restore
and are you referring to intervideo hauppauge Non CSS decoder well try running hcw.clear.exe it is in the cd folder at SHS forum that includes the always newest drivers also unregister.bat but do it before hcw.clear.exe if you use it also you will have to uninstall the smd intervideo product from you add/remove programs list if it is still there and turn off sage while you do this then you will need to reboot make sure sage is not auto starting this time and reinstall the drivers when the new hardware wizard comes up but if that stilll does not work I zipped the dll for you good luck oh and your first problem is a merit problem first go the media player then goto options then DVD then advanced and this audio screen that should appear is your system's default decoder you should probably change it to some retail version of a decoder like the cyberlink ones you have you will need radlight filter manager to do this and adjust the decoder that you want to make the system default to the highest merit they are all in the direct show section don't worry it is easy and you can adjust all the decoders in there too to do like spdif or stereo or whatever |

Okay, I only had time tonight to try to get the files to play in media player---unfortunately it still doesnt' work. I used the radlight filter to give the cyberlink audio and video decoders highest priority but when I go into media player---options---DVD---advanced --it only brings up a properties page that doesn't display any of the decoders. The files play in DivX player and Cyberlink Media Player but there is still a green stripe on the bottom of the screen which is really anoying. Once again, it doesn't do that in the Sage Player. Any thoughts?
-I'll try to reinstall the drivers for the Hauppauge tomorrow and let you know. Thanks later JUC |

do you have ffdshow installed try uninstalling it if so
why do you not play them back in Sage? also there is a direct show filter that has its merit very high apparently what you need to do is find out which on it is and scale it back some then make the cyberlink video and audio decoder merit preferred also did you try to restart the computer sometimes it takes that as well also are you using a registered version of cyberlink and what version |

Okay, thanks-I finally got the priorities set and can get the file to play in Media player BUT...there is still a fuzzy green line at the bottom of the screen in all players other than sage.
-I do play all my files in sage, but if I want to bring a show over to a friends, I don't want it to have the green line, and its anoying so...does anyone have any ideas. I have not had this problem with files created by other recorders. Thanks JUC |

it is not the file it is something on your computer
mine do not have that do you have ffdshow installed? if so uninstall it have you tried playing them back in another computer to see also if you play them in a stand alone player you will not see them like a DVD player cause TV sets have overscan built in it could be the roslyn card doing it but I doubt it (I only say this cause I do not have one) |

Alright, I do not have FFdshow installed. I also coppied a few files to my laptop that I just did a clean install on yesterday and I am getting the same problems--green lines on the bottom of the screen. The files DO however stream to my connected DVD player and play on the TV fine---overscan works.
But, why the green stripe? Hopefully when I can get the intervideo decoder software installed that will fix the problem? I don't see why though. Also, last night I quickly tried to copy your .dll into the system32 folder and then registered it----the intervideo decoder still didnt' work. I even tried downloading the file from their site but it was saying the same thing : could not find system 32\hcwpnp...What I don't understand is that isn't that the file that it is supposed to be installing---then why can't it find it? Frustration frustration ... Thanks for the help JUC |

OK. I found a copy of WinDVD and installed it and now I can use my intervideo decoder in Sage. So that is solved. BUT-- I am still getting a horizontal green stripe on the bottom of the files as well as a vertical black stripe on the right hand side (this is not in Sage but everyother player I try to play the file in). So, I am going to start a new thread on this specific issue. THANKS-
Juc

do not bother with the vertical black bar
it is driver with hauppauge or something that they have not bother to fix you can only do one thing to correct this outside of sage and that is turn on the overlay zoom in the video card options and it will do overscan for all players using overlay also the green line is probably part of the broadcast is sounds like Mine has a nice static bar across the top it is funny though because in WinTV 2000 the files would play without the static across the top but not in other players I think hauppauge was trying to hide it because it is a common issue (one of the main reason I do not like BeyondTV/Snapstream, they do not have any overscan ) |

Thanks, you have been really helpful...at least now I know that it is not something to do with my setup. Hopefully it will be addressed in the future.
