R5000HD software for moto dct/FIOS

I posted this on AVSForum but for those R5000-HD users not following that thread I am posting here. I also posted this to the FIOS thread, because it is obvious that the R5000HD is way better than any of the other approaches for unencrypted full-quality non-DRM'd capture of all channels using SageTV.

While I love the R5000-HD hardware, I do not love the software. The glitches, crashes and incomplete recordings became nauseating and I could not sleep. So I wrote replacement recorder software for the R5000-HD. You can download it from http://www.hugolyppens.com/SageTVR5000HDRecorder.html. It only works for FIOS and with Motorola boxes. So it is a lot more limited than Nextcom's software. It is also just a command line so not user-friendly. Stay away if you are not comfortable with this. On the plus side, recordings are flawless. The software uses hardly any memory. It runs on Windows 7 and all others so no need to muck around, like previous posters, with running R5000HD on an old XP box just to make it stable.

If I get some success reports from fellow FIOS/Motorola users I will feel stimulated to figure out a way to make it work for other configurations. Thanks for looking.

I would love to see something that works with Shaw Direct satellite receivers (they use Motorola boxes too).

Nice job

Very cool. I got a really good deal on the hardware to do this mod a short while back, but held off because of the extra money needed to get their software for it to work with SageTV and the fact that many people were still complaining about overall stability. Since I have FIOS, I will have to look back into this again. Thanks!

Where did you get this hardware deal? I would consider modding my remaining unmodded box for a third tuner. At times, Nextcom LLC. would put refurb hardware on sale but I haven't seen this lately. Their current prices appear out of whack relative to HDHomerun Prime ($207 Amazon preorder) and Ceton cable card tuning devices with 3 and 4 tuners respectively. I would recommend they reduce their prices to $175 for an installed R5000-HD mod and $100 for a self-install kit.
