Thanks for getting us back on topic

I'm not sure microbrews are focusing on ales - is that really true?

Sure seems like it. I can find tons of ale only breweries, but few that are primarily lager or bock based (my 2 favorites). I guess that's why I lean toward the German brews.

It is what it is. You have every right to complain and be upset. It's really not worth it though in my opinion. It's out of our control - and really Jeffs control now so I plan to make the most of what I have.
Yes, that may be....but it is still under someone's control (Google) and if I don't voice my views and concerns they will never be heard....at least I can make peace with that!

Thanks for the comments Brent.

You know that it should tell you something when Jeff is still reading through this thread. He even commented on what he could. Granted, it had nothing to do with sage, but he is still out there. I am still holding out hope that once his NDA is over he'll have some good news for us. I'm willing to bet that it is killing him having to keep his mouth shut to us.

Oh crap, I forgot this is a beer discussion...

(BTW, can we change the thread title to "SageTV acquired by Google. Can't do anything about it. Might as well have some beer")
My sentiments exactly - Seeing how we need an admin type to change the topic, perhaps he can do that

I think you'll find there are quite a few more 'good' microbrew ale's than microbrew lagers and such. Part of that is due to the lack of decent american ale's from the big guys, so it is natural that the microbrews would fill that gap. That said, I'd wager that the reason most those Ale's are considered 'good' ale's, is also due to the lack of a decently sized market mass produced ale's for comparison.

First time I felt like commenting (or even reading) this thread again. I'm more of a wheat beer drinker, so I gravitate towards the German brews myself.

Hoegaarden (Belgian) - They invented the stuff so they know what they're doing. See my previous comment about the Belgians and Czech's teaching the German's about brewing.

A beer is either an ale or a lager. The difference is in the fermentation and storage temperatures. Ales are fermented and stored at normal room temperatures while lagers are fermented at lower temperatures and require special yeasts that are active in these lower temperatures. Lagers also require significantly longer fermentation even with lager yeasts. Lagering is also know as "bottom-fermentation" while ales use "top-fermentation".

Since lagers require more time to produce as well as refrigeration to get the low temperatures they are more difficult and expensive to produce and is why there are fewer lagers than ales.

Terms such as Dunkel, Bock, and Pilsener refer to types of Lager. Ales are usually just called beer and tend to be bitter. The word ale is rarely used anymore except in the beers name (Newcastle Brown Ale, Pete's Wicked Ale, Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale, etc.)

Microbrew would have been the better move. Or Bud Light, no way could I drink more than 0.125 ounces of that.
Oh thank god, I just got outbid, it's now up to $330. After the wine buzz wore off, I realized I really don't want a single function playback device if its $300, for not much more I could build a fanless multi-function HTPC. (not that I want to, but I could).

I'm deleting eBay Mobile from my iPhone, I clearly cannot be trusted with it. Either that, or stick with lagers, I end up doing silly things when I have wheat beer as I rarely have just, eh, 3-4.

And that is why I am looking at the PC clients as well. Something that can work with SageTV now, and work with whatever comes next (google or whatever) ... and it's not even single function, all mine will do is be a client, but a PC can be a client for many options out there.

I've have gotten very close to upgrading my AVR due to eBay Mobile. Definitely need to be careful with it while consuming tasty...microbrews.

PS...glad I could successfully derail this thread to happier thoughts for so many pages.

Yepper - the e350 is one I am really looking at but I am concerned about how snappy the menus will be with an e350. As far as the SSD goes, I plan on building whatever I do and using a notebook HD I have lying around (I think it *might* be 60Gb) - and *if* i have startup issues getting an SSD. For an e350 I am looking at the Zotacs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16856173022 mount it right on the back of the tv

Yeah, and will it be cold enough? Or too cold or too warm? This can quite ruin your day.
