Having problems with Playon plugin and netflix

I'll go to watch something in netflix using playon and it will start the movie some minutes into the movies. I'm not sure how far in it starts. Also, I'll go to watch a tv show in netflix like x-files and it will play maybe 20mins then just stop. I verified the show works fine on my ipad.

What is the best way to troubleshoot playon.netflix issue.

any thoughts?

on a computer go to netflix and select the same movie you are seeing this happen on.

Once it starts playing it will probably start playing at the same location as you mentioned in you rpost. start it from the beginning and stop the movie.


then in sage do a manual update of your hulu/netflix queue.

When you start the movie now it shoudl start from the very beginning or wherever you left off in the web player.

This trick used to work a while ago, but i haven't tried it recently.

give it a shot.

If u go into the plugin section from the sage ui, go to the Netflix/hulu queue importer plugin and here is an option to update in there.

So I went to my sage server and played the movie from netflix. It started at the same place it did in sage. So I stopped it and slide the slider play bar back to the beginning. then I went into playon setting and kicked off the update.
now there were 3 type of updates so I kicked off all. But I didn't see anything saying the sync started, should I have?

Any ways I went back to the playon netflix queue and the same movie still started in the middle of the movie.

Any thoughts?

I'm noticing this too. There's a playon setting to "enable resume".. perhaps turn this off? I'm at work so I can't try it.

So there are a few things being discussed in this thread and they'd all be different issues so...

First off, if you're video doesn't start at the beginning, its an annoying PlayOn issue that they pretend isn't a big deal. I wish there was something I could do, but there isn't.

Next, if the video starts playing, but stops after 20 minutes, that's an odd one. First off, when you say it "stops" does it...
  1. The video OSD shows the video as having a duration of 20 minutes and it plays up until then and then playback stops and Sage automatically leaves video OSD.
  2. The video OSD shows the correct duration of the video but when it gets to ~20 minutes the playback stops and Sage automatically leaves the video OSD.
  3. The video OSD shows the correct duration of the video, but when it gets to ~20 minutes the screen goes blank but the OSD still shows the video as playing.

That setting just has PlayOn buffer the video for you, but its unnecessary since Sage is also buffering the video. I recommend leaving that setting off.

This is only necessarily if you are using the Queue Importer functionality and have added new content to your queue since the last time the Queue Importer ran. It doesn't have anything to do with resetting video timelines, that's strictly between Netflix and PlayOn.

When I go to watch an xfiles episode it starts like 10 or 20 mins in but the buffer time line shows it starting at zero.

Are there any cached files kept local that I can remove or may reinstalling play on?

Nope that's this issue

PlayOn doesn't have any idea where the video starts playing, it just opens up a browser window, lets Netflix begin the movie where it wants, and then starts streaming the video to Sage. The only way to fix this is to get Netflix to start the video from the beginning again.

Check out that link for info, but basically you just need top open up the movie in a browser window, fast forward until it ends, and then it should restart properly.
