I also want to note something here. .. .

While I completely agree that in general an SD signal is going to look terrible on and HD tv. . .plasma tvs are arguably the best at making this transition, whereas LCDs are the worst.

Also I happen to know that until very recently I was unable to get HD channels from my local cable provide at all without a box (even the locals). Everything was SD that was unencrypted. . .that has changed since. . .but still could be an issue here.

Now I do agree that an extender may be the way to go. . .but I do both. .
Did we establish that you are using windows? (If so I apologize). . .if so I definitely have some tips that could probably help. ..

If your using linux though. . .I can't be much help. . .but again an extender would
certainly ease the pain (although blue-ray is a pain no matter what).

On the flip side. . .I have had my setup running now for over a year with the new sage 7, and other than a couple of re-boots due to directv updates. . .have literally had very few problems and WAF is very high. . .

I also know that many won't agree with me. . but I'll also say that wherever you can afford to go overkill on hardware do it. . .It makes a world of difference. . .

Technically I shouldn't need Win 7 Ultimate. . or shouldn't need an i7 EE processor, or 6GB of RAM, but boy did it make life easier. . .no matter what HD transcoding for playback or whatever is pretty hard on machines. . . I suffered for a while when I had XP.

OK, here is an update ... Though I have not seen any specific comments on the settings I posted, I have noticed that changing to Win7 codecs did make a difference that is livable.

That said, with all the positive comments "and" good timing ... When my wife asked what I wanted for Father's Day and I usually say I haven't got a clue ... well this time I said, "I want the SageTV HD Theater 300!" ... So, Mine is on order and I am awaiting delivery. I hope it is as great as you all say, especially the WAF!

Thanks again all ... Will let you know how it goes and if I need any help with setup questions.

That's awesome. You won't be disappointed. It is one of the few products that just works. It turns on and connect to the server in less than 10 seconds, and it is completely silent. You can even hide it behind the TV, just get the optional IR receiver for the remote.

Way to go mightyt (or should I say, Nostradamus) this whole mess is all YOUR fault.

I bet you'll be a little more careful choosing your message board topic titles in the future

GREAT NEWS!! And the jokes on me ... I guess the 300 came in on Friday without my knowledge and my wife wrapped it because it was a Father's Day present. Hearing the Google news this morning obviously concerned me, but having now opened my gift I may be the last one to get a 300 from Sage ... Wait, does that make it a collectors item worth millions???

Can't wait to try it ...
