Sage gurus, on H264 problem

Sage v6.6.2 server on XP

Problem 1: Win7 PC, Sage 7 client cannot connect to server, even when I key in the LAN IP address. Does not auto-detect either. Not a firewall issue - windows shares and VNC work. HD300 works with that XP based server.

Problem 2: Win7 PC, Sage 6 client does connect to the given IP address of the same server, displays menus normally. Playback of HD recording causes the arcane error -4,nnnnn. The H264 decoder is set to Microsoft DVT-DVD. Same recording file plays OK on the same PC as the Sage client, using Win Media Player so H264 decoder must be OK. I've tried VMR9, and other settings in Sage. No help.

TIA

On problem 1: You can't mix client and server versions. A V7 client requies a V7 server.

For problem 2, I don't believe Sage 6 is compatible with the MS decoders without a patch although I can't say if this is what the error you are getting means. See the beta forum here http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43579 for the Native Recording Patch.

thanks. Reading - but what's again missing is explicit how-to.
Sage 6 is ugly Betty but far more readable at 15ft. than the grey on grey and other issues with Sage 7. Functionality is better in 7, but it's moot if the WAF fails.

Whatever version of Sage is on the Sage server there is a matching Sage client. (i.e. SageTV 7.0.23/Sage Client 7.0.23 - SageTV 6.5/Sage Client 6.5)

I believe the blue swish is still available in Sage 7. admittedly, I don't know how to invoke it. I got it by accident when doing some troubleshooting.

Yes, I learned how to use the "blue swish" UI in Sage 7. The problem I have is that the default UI in Sage 7 has too much low-contrast/small font grey-on-grey, unworkable for the sight-impaired principal viewer here.

Sorry, I've lost the bubble, as they say, on what this is addressing.
