Ability to cache channel logos on hd300
Is there no way for the hd300 to cache the channel logos so they don't have to load as I scroll throughout the guide? It would be nice to just have them appear. Now the logo images display lags a little bit.

This is mostly a user-to-user forum. Sometimes the Sage people chime in,but not always.
Submit a bug report asking for the change.

These logos are cached; but it does a delayed-load on them so that initial navigation of the EPG isn't slowed down at all by loading the channel logos. There's no time delay associated with that either...it's just once the CPU has spare resources to load them, which is generally very quickly.

So really, its a CPU resource thing. Your saying the only way to get the images to show up instantaneously along with the channel is to have a faster CPU? (ie.. hd400 maybe )

if they are cached the first time they load on the hd300 Why is it that when the first time I scroll through the channels the logos load lags but after that initial scroll through while still in the epg the logos will show instaneously. All is good at this point. It seems like the logos are cached.
But then if I leave the epg and look/scroll at some other images (ie..movie fannart) and then come back to the epg I notice the same display lag until it seams like the logos are loaded back in memory/cache again. Maybe this is more of a memory issue and that the cache is not very big on the hd300? Or is the cache size/data controlled on the sage service/server the hd300 is connected into? |

Yes it seems to keep several pages cached. As you scroll to the new page it loads the logos one at at time, but if you scroll back to the previous page they load instantly, seems you can go back several pages and the logos load instantly.
Couldn't they just pre-load the next page? As long as you weren't scrolling too fast it would load instantly by the time you get to the next page. Put the middle of the cache on the current page so the next page is preloaded, whichever direction you go. |

Yup its not. How much memory is on the hd300 though? I wonder if this could still be improved upon. It would be interesting to know what type of caching(really want to know when items are evicted) algorithm is in play here. Whatever it is, it looks to be deployed at a higher(global even?) level for maybe even all image assets that need displaying |

There are other menus where the STV preloads images for the next & previous pages; it might be added for channel logos in the guide menu.
