Multi card priority

Here is my delema.... I have a 2 tuner setup and (hauppuage 250 and avermedia 150) I have both cards capable of recording over the air signals and my DTV is hooked up to my Avermedia card via s-vid.

If I want to record a DTV show I must make sure i select it first because for some reason the avermedia card is the prefered recording device.

How can I swap the two? can i do this in software?

Thank you,
Boris

You can go into your sage.properties file (while Sage is shut down). Find the encoder you want to have priority. It'll be the one that looks like this:

mmc/encoders/<encoder#>/video_capture_device_name=Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture

Assuming you want the Hauppauge card to have priority (I think this is what you were saying) set the merit for that encoder to 1, so it's higher than the Avermedia encoder's merit of 0:

mmc/encoders/<encoder#>/encoder_merit=1

That should do it.

Shouldn't SageTV choose the correct card based on the channels enabled for each source. I have a very similiar setup to yours:
1 PVR250 with analog cable hooked to the PVR's coax tuner input. A digital cable box hooked to the PVR250's composite AV jacks.
1 M150 with the same analog cable feed(split) connected to the M150's coax tuner input.

By making sure that I selected the analog EPG source for the tuner inputs and the digital EPG source for the M150's composite input. And making sure to deselect any overlapping channels from the two sources(digital/analog). So that my digital EPG source only list channels that are digital, no analog.

Using this setup my system seems to juggle the digital source just fine. Maybe it's because I have the digital running in to my PVR250, where you have the digital running to your M150? I haven't looked at the encoder merits, but they'd be the SageTV defaults. It just seems to me that if setup without any overlapping channels between the sources SageTV should know which card to use. If not it's a bug, at least in my opinion. Since the neccessary info is there for SageTV to do the correct thing without user intervention. Or am I missing something obvious?

Well yes, Sage uses the avermedia card to select the first shows selected and the 250 for any conflicts. Usualy i'm recording network TV 80% of the time so its not a problem except durring the prime time.

I like the inputs of the 150 over the 250.

I could split the signal from the DTV... may be i'll play that rout too. just have to make a mental note of not attempting to record 2 shows from the DTV at the same time.

Thank you,
Boris

Well back when I had a DirectTV setup, I used the dual RCA/SVHS jacks to run one to my VCR and the other thru my Stereo/TV. This allowed me to do recording at night on the VCR without having it always inline of the DTV signal and potentially downgrading quality. I'd guess dual hookups would also come in handy for Tivo/Replay setups. Maybe I go over board but I think you can never have too many IO jacks on an audio/video device. The first time you try to set up something to behave a certian way and find your short one IO jack, is enough. IMO

Then again I have this weird tangle of wires in back of my TV. With multiple cables going from device to device. The different signals have many pathes to my TV or amp. The only thing to watch out for is to avoid an infinite loop.
