Plugin: Phoenix Fanart for SageTV

Added to the repository a new plugin "Phoenix Fanart for SageTV" which among other things is a merging of the existing Phoenix Fanart for SageTV V7 plugin and the Phoenix Fanart for Malore Menus plugin.

This new plugin is compatible with SageTV 7.1.5+

Obviously, only either the new plugin, or the old plugins should be enabled.

This plugin includes all the features of the previous plugins.
Fanart displayed in the Preview area of lists
Banners displayed in the Malore Menus

This plugin adds a few features to the existing plugins.
Background fanart in detailed info, guide and scheduled recordings panels
Selectable resolution of background fanart
Separate scaling/caching for different resolution output devices

Thanks to bialio and tmiranda for the original plugins and the support/approval in merging the two plugins.

John

Thank John. Phoenix Fanart for the Malore menus was getting long in the tooth, thanks for breathing new life into things.

If I uninstall the Phoenix for v7 before installing this, will it break anything? In other words, is anything dependent on Phoenix for v7 that would be messed up by switching to this (even if it's only in the time between uninstalling one and installing the other)?

Just don't confuse Phoenix Fanart for Sage (either one) with Phoenix.

There are no other plugins that are dependent on "Phoenix Fanart for SageTV V7". This plugin contains all the code from the v7 Fanart plugin with all the bits that weren't working in SageTV 7.1 fixed. I have tested it with the likely candidates for any form of interaction (Diamond and CVF) and haven't found any problems.

If you are running SageTV 7.1.5, you should uninstall all of these plugins if you have them installed.
"Phoenix Fanart for SageTV V7"
"Phoenix Fanart for Malore Menus"
"Read, Write and Edit Metadata"
"IMDB Search"
"Upcoming Movies"

and install
"Phoenix Fanart for SageTV"
and if desired "Upcoming Movies 2"

Installing either of those will also install "Complementary Metadata Tool (CMT)" which is a replacement for the RW Metadata and IMDB plugins.

Correct. I'm more than happy to change the name of the plugin if there are any suggestions. If you stick to the UI Mod section of the Plugin manager then you can't really go wrong.

No, is the short answer.

All the old plugins are still compatible with SageTV 7.0, while the new ones are not. There is an overlap of compatibility at 7.1.5. It's a little unfortunate that the default setting in the plugin manager is to display incompatible plugins.

My wife and I use "IMDB search" frequently for, well, searching IMDB. We don't use it for metadata population at all. Does that mean that, in order to have this plugin (and CMT) I have to give that up? Honestly, I don't know if some basic IMDB searching capability (the kind we use) is built into default Sage - maybe it is? - but if I made a change where the "Search IMDB" option was removed from all of the various pop-up menus, my wife would kill me.

I believe it's built into CMT along with Read Write Edit Metadata plugin so you won't lose it. I have the IMDB on my menus with only CMT installed.

You're safe from being killed by your wife (at least in this case ).

Correct, IMDB Search certainly is a part of what is included in the CMT plugin.

I'm running 7.1.5.5 with this new plugin but don't see fanart thumbnails or banners in malore menus or anywhere else. I have some fanart in BMT, and TVExplorer shows banners, but i cannot see them in malore menus. is there a setting to turn them on besides the Metadata Options?

my entire install is fresh (new hard drive)

The only setting for the malore menus is in Metadata Options or Fanart Options (they're the same setting).

Do you have the Central Fanart Directory path set correctly? It's in the same options menus.

Try going into Options for a show and selecting "Manage Metadata" and "View / Edit Fan Art for this Item". That will display all the fanart that the system thinks is available for the Video.

What device are you using for Sage? (extender, client, UI on server, UI on server running in service mode)

Detailed Setup->Customize->Metadata Options->Phoenix Fanart Configuration->Fanart Central Folder is set correctly

However, Customize->Phoenix Central Fanart Folder is not set correctly. it will not let me select userdata/Phoenix/Fanart. It just reverts to Program Files/SageTV/SageTV. it i think i saw another post about this.

Options->Manage Meta Data->View Edit Fan Art for this item shows multiple banners, posters and backgrounds.

However, the thumbnail for the show in the malore and standard menu is the screenshot, not the poster. View Recording Detail does appear to be showing fanart, in the top right of the screen, with the screenshot below.

I am not seeing banners or backgrounds anywhere.

I am running sage on an HD200, with the server running as a service.

thank you for your help

What UI Mod plugins have you got installed?

Customize->Phoenix Central Fanart Folder isn't one of mine, so there may be a conflict between plugins.

I disabled all UI mod plugins except yours, but it still will not show fanart in the thumbnail area of regular or malore menu.

Customize->Phoenix Central Fanart Folder is still there. i will try to track down its source.

I had the in the Phoenix Fanart for Malore Menus plugin so I'm pretty sure it came along for the ride when you did the port. I just tried it out by installing the plugin on a SageClient and pointing it at the FanArt directory on my server and it does work. It's actually located in Setup->Detailed Setup->Advanced.

What didn't work was selecting Setup->BMT Metadata Scan. Do I need to install BMT separately and if so why not add it as a dependency for this plugin?

That's definitely not from my plugin, which would probably explain why it's not working for you. I suspect you have the old "Phoenix Fanart for SageTV V7" version 0.1.9 installed. You need "Phoenix Fanart for SageTV" version 1.0.1 installed. As I mentioned before, If anyone has any suggestions for a name that doesn't cause confusion I'm more than happy to change it.

I removed all those when I did the merge. Now the settings are in Detailed Setup->Customize->Fanart Options, and some duplicated in Metadata Options

What didn't work?, Setup->BMT Metadata Scan comes with CMT, which does have phoenix-core and phoenix-api as it's dependencies. My understanding is that BMT is now just a front end, with all the scanning being done by phoenix-core. I don't have a client to be able to test that.

John,

When I selected the scan it gave me an unknown method error. I'll get the log later today.

I'll double check my Client, but I'm pretty sure I have the "Central Fanart" option where I described after installing the new plugin.

John,

The Central Fanart option is in Setup->Detailed Setup->Customize->Fanart Options as you stated. Sorry for the confusion.

Here is the java error that occurs when I try the BMT scan. (I selected a recording folder.)
