Question newbie: keep main menu like default skin?

I love the vast majority of Diamond. I mean, it is AWESOME!

I'm a complete newbie to Sage (but am an IT professional, so am technical enuf to follow whatever).

Are there config files (xml or properties or something) where I can try out different customized looks with Diamond? For example, the main menu along the left...TV/VIDEOS/MUSIC/etc. Can I keep that up statically like the default Sage UI?

I might get used to it, but as a newbie, I find it easier to look up/down the column and know where I want to navigate to instead of slowly scrolling and reading the options. My wife would be totally lost.

Using v3.20 on 7.1.5beta.

Everything looks great. Thanks guys!
-AJ

Diamond comes with a ton of themes to play with - you can load them up by going to Setup/Detailed Setup/Advanced and scroll to where it says "Select the user interface theme"

I hope that is what you meant by your question.

Themes are certainly part of my question. Probably a large part of my question, depending upon how deep the theme configurations go.

I'll check there next and return if I still haven't found what I'm looking for (not meaning to quote Bono there...).

Thanks for the quick reply,
AJ

I found three themes in there (maybe I can d/l more?). But my main question was controlling the time menu-item is displayed in the left-most ("main") menu. I would like to try keeping ALL of the menu-items displayed in there until I get used to where everything is.

It might look a little "cleaner" the way it is, but for n00b's, it takes longer to remember where everything is, and if you scroll fast enough the animation of menu-text jumping out at you is kind-of, well, different.

Do you mean you want the menus on the left to always display while making your choices as if you use the right arrow key to make your choice with rather then the enter key , it will open up the sub menu for the category your at and display the sub menus and will only close when you make your choice by pressing enter.

I am unsure if that was the answer you wanted and if not feel free to elaborate what you want to do and maybe someone else can help if I don't know the answer.

No, that's not it either (and I think this is my lack of Sage usage for proper terminology more than anything).

The main menus on the left, from top-to-bottom, are "TV", "VIDEOS", etc. With the Diamond theme, only one is displayed at a time -- the one that you are looking at or mouse-hovering-over, etc. So if I'm currently in the TV submenus, for example, I do not see the "VIDEOS", ONLINE, SETUP, etc. They disappear. I would like them to always be present, or change the amount of time after you move off of them for them to fade-out.

It would lessen the learning-curve of finding things for us newbies (IMHO).

You would need studio to edit that. fYI diamond isn't meant to work well with a mouse.

The standard menu also does this, it's not just a Diamond thing. Like Plucky said would require UI mod.

OK, maybe it's just because I'm testing using a mouse, but with the OOTB 7.1.5 theme, if I hover over "Videos", for example (but have tried them all), the word "Videos" is larger and bolded, but all the other items are still visible (TV, Music, Photos, etc.).

Only if I move into Videos' sub-menu (by moving to the right across the arrow next to Videos) do the other main-menu-items disappear.

Straight OOTB 7.1.5 install.

I see it now. In the standard if you mouse over the text area the other items still show but without focus without expanding the second level menu. In Diamond mousing over the the text the same way has the same effect as mousing over the area "right" of the text in the standard that auto expands the second level menu. This is not an issue with KB or remote.

A mod would be required to do this. Also like Plucky said we don't promote mousing, most Diamond views/screens are more KB and remote friendly

No problem. Next step is setting up and testing a remote!

Thanks for all your hard work. It's truly fantastic looking stuff.

If your using sage for over the air reception my favorite remote of choice is the firefly mini I bought it from snapstream for 29.95 when I used to use that product and found that it works great for my needs after I installed the firefly mini driver they have in the help pages.

Basically you download the old firefly mini driver if you have the mini and install it and then copy the firefly min startup icon to your startup menu in windows 7 . Then you right click the mini icon after starting it and click options and point the program to run sagetv.exe when you press the red power button.

turns on and off sage tv and it's a lot faster then the streamzap remote I tried out
