Favored channels

Is there a way to specify that one channel should be favored if a show is available on multiple channels?

For example...
- Channels 293 and 285 both carry 'Dancing_with_the_stars'
- My wife prefers to watch it on C293 because it has local commercials (yeah .. i know ...)
- However, Sage will almost always pick 285
- End result .. my wife tunes in 293, Sage tunes in 285, Both tuners are busy.. lots of confusion etc

So.. I'm looking a way to specify a few channels as 'favored' so Sage will always pick them if the show is available

Cant you go to TV/Schedule Recordings/Manage Favorites And change your "Dancing_with_the_stars" schedule to do this. You would open that favorite and change channel from Any to channel 293 and it will only record that show when it's on that certain channel.

At least it should do that.

P.s. I assume you meant your wife wants to watch it live while it's recording the other channel after carefully reading what you wrote. If that is the case, my only other suggestion that technically should work is to create 2 tuner guide setups. One channel setup would be with all the channels except 293 and the second channel listing would be all the channels except 285.

Doing that would give you double channels but would make it so the wifes channel is only on one tuner and not the other so it should stop both tuners from being used at the same time.

At least I think it should work in theory.

I have specified the channel in some of the favorites and it works fine.
But it's easy to forget.

Sage certainly seems to have some internal preference, as it will pick the 'wrong' channel every time. Maybe it's a higher/lower channel number thing.

I wonder .. maybe I can re-number the channels. Will look into that .

If those channels are on different tuners, you could try using the mmc/encoders/####/encoder_merit properties to set the preferred tuner (higher # == higher priority); if they are on the same tuner, you could try disabling the channel you think is lower quality.

Hi Andy
Both channels are valid and are on both tuners.
But something like 'merit for channels' vs 'merit for tuners' is what I was looking for
Unfortunately, there are more than just the two channels I've given in the example above. .. I'd hate to disable them on the 2nd tuner

A solution of sorts

Looks like Sage always picks the 'lowest' channel number if a show is on multiple channels.

I was able to assign our 'prefered' channels to a lower number and Sage is now picking them 1st.

It's still akward, as the sage channels now differ than the normal satelite guide, but it seems to work.

Is there a way to make official 'feature-requests' for something like 'favored channels'
