External IR Receiver Modification?

Hi,

I just broke off the tip of the IR receiver plug in my Hauppauge PVR 150 card and now I have no remote control! I would just order a new IR receiver if the tip was not still inside the PVR card...

So, I am wondering if I can cut the plug off the IR Receiver and wire it to an old USB cable and use the IR Receiver through the USB port...I am pretty sure that I cannot do it because I am guessing that I will need drivers to use it...Am I correct in that?

If I am correct, how can I use the Hauppauge remote again? From my research it seems I just need to order the USB-UIRT and use that with the Hauppauge remote...Will that work?

Thanks for any help,
superFLINT.

You could get the usb-uirt. YOu can not just wire a receiver to a usb plug.

That being said, and i am sure you have tried, but if you pop the card out you just might be able to get the tip out.

Thanks for the reply...

I got the tip out but that didnt do me any good...I got the end cut off the IR Receiver to see if I could solder it to the PVR card directly but Im not sure what to solder it too...I cannot find any schematics telling me whats what...

I was pretty sure I couldnt do the IR to USB mod but I figured I would check just in case someone had done it before...

SO, if I get a USB-UIRT then I can use the Hauppauge remote with it? And should I get the model with the 56kHz? For the sake of 5 bucks I will probably order it...

Yeah I mangled the port, ... I cracked the port when I moved the computer a couple months ago and I had to wiggle the IR cord in the port every week or so to get it to make contact and it was a pain, then the tip broke off all the way ... Knowing what I know now, I think the port was fine and the IR plug was causing the problems ... If I was any good at soldering I could probably solder it to the board, if I knew what wires went where ...

But, now, I am going to order a USB-UIRT if it will work with my Hauppauge remote? And then maybe I can get Sage to change the channels on my Satellite too!

Thanks again...

i got the usb-uirt, use it with the hauppauge 45 button remote. If you use the beta drivers, it will recieve and transmit. So you can use it for your remote and blast your cable box.

Well worth it.

Cool ...

Im going to order it now from the guy who makes them, he has much cheaper shipping to Canada, only 8 bucks vs $41 on Sage, crazy!

My remote is only 43 button but when I installed Sage I had to pick the 45 button, no option for the 43, still worked fine though ...

Thanks again for the help!
