Colossus "disappeared"

I added a new Colossus capture card a few weeks ago and everything was working great until today. The Colossus card isn't showing up in the video sources.
  • I tried restarting the Sagetv service.
  • I tried rebooting the server.
  • I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the colossus drivers. In the device manager it shows the colossus set up properly and working.
  • I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Sagetv (clean install). The colossus still isn't there.
  • I checked to see if the Dish 211 is sending out a signal (it is).

Is there anything else I can try before I pull the card out and send it back?

My system specs:

WHS
Latest version of SageTV
HD PVR (component)
Colossus (component)
2 Dish 211's
USBUIRT
2-HD300 extenders

Thanks!

Todd

Latest release or latest beta? Post an actual version number please. 7.1.5 is the version you should be using for Colossus support. (Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine. Last guy I tried to help thought 7.0.20 was "the latest version".)

If you can't get it to work with 7.1.5, open a bug ticket with Sage before sending the card back; otherwise the bug might not get fixed.

Check sage.properties to see if it is listed on the mmc/ignore_encoders property line. If it is, delete that line while SageTV isn't running.

Appreciate the response. I didn't see the Colossus in the ignore line but maybe I missed something.

I attached the Properties file. Any help is greatly appreciated.

One thing I noticed, the last couple of days I have been getting choppy performance and even some lockups on some recordings. I checked the detailed info and all of those recordings were done by the Colossus. I haven't had any playback issues with the HD PVR.

Install the wintv7 app and see if you can see the card with that. If you can tune the card with that, then the issue is sage, If not it is a driver or hardware issue. Most likely a hardware issue.

I have seen device manager show a device as working even though there was something wrong. Easiest thing to try is changing the slot the card is plugged into. Also make absolutely sure the the card seated is in the slot completely.

If it is a driver issue, you need to Use the Hauppauge HWClear tool to completely clean the driver from your system and reinstall the latest driver off there site from scratch.

you can get the removal tool from
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...8/hcwclear.exe

Latest driver http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...ssus_29073.zip

Can you install WinTV 7 on WHS? Other then a laptop, thats the only computer I have.

Device manager says its working correctly. I tried reinstalling the drivers, reinstalling SageTV, including a "fresh" install. No fix.

Hauppauge responded and asked me to install WinTV 7 on the laptop. But it wont install because it cant find the card.

Installing wintv on laptop does you no good. I don't know much about WHS, So I don't know if you can install it or not. Have you tried?

Just because Device Manager says its working doesn't mean it is working. This is doubly true for a card with a video processor on board.

When you tried re-installing the drivers, Did you use the hwclear first?

Have you tried changing the pci-e slot the card is in?

mine just did too. Today I was converting my system from Beyondtv to Sagetv and finally got the Colossus working...then it pooped out. Looking in the device manager reveals the Colossus Capture Device cannot start. I unistalled and removed the drivers and reinstalled the newest drivers from Hauppauge, but still have the same problem.

UPDATE: I turned off the pc for about 3 minutes instead of 'restarting' it. when it booted up, it was working again.

Yes, I saw the same recently. Only the capture device had a question mark in device manager. Shutting down works, just reboot didn't. Sounds almost like a hardware issue to me...

Shutting down completely worked for me as well. After I turned the server back on the Colossus shows up on the Video Sources list.

After wrangling with Hauppauge for over a week they finally gave me an RMA. Even though its mysteriously working again, I may send it back.
