Am I the only jacko that can't update my PVR350 drivers?

I swear I'm usually good at this stuff but on two different attempts to update my Hauppage drivers I've had to revert to a system restore.

My driver version shows the retail version - only I thought I had run an update when I installed originally in Jan. so may be the inf is off and I don't even need an update?

Even if thats the case though, if i unistall everything and run hwclear, restart, then browse to the updated driver pack OR the retail pack I get an error where windows tells me the location has no information about my device.

If I try to update the driver and point to the new pack, windows says it can't find a better match.

anyone know the mystery step I'm missing?

tia, jb

Normally you use the HCW tool from hauppauge site and clear all the files from your machine, then reboot and install the card with the bare cd files also downloaded from the site, after this run the update of the new drivers and all should be done and ready to go.

So you clear all the files and then reboot?

I do, run hwclear. I read on another website where you had to delete reg items but I figured that was before hwclear, right?

I have always run HCW Clear with the clear ALL files and programs option, when the machine reboots, if you don't give it the drivers it should not be able to identify the card. If it finds the card properly without your help then there is an existing ini file that windows is using.

The only way that could happen is if they are using the same chipset on the cards.

ok part of the problem is do use system restore
I tried working with that piece of garbage before and it would mess up the drivers where they would not install, uninstall, or update
it is a known problem
system restore does not do well with with changing hauppauge drivers
and it justs sucks normally

there is a way I would do it

first goto shspvr.com/forum and download his new "beta" cd , they are the official drivers now not beta

first unzip the folder to your desktop

then close everything sage too
maybe even reboot so you are starting with nothing going

then run unregister.bat from the cd folder
then run hcw.clear.exe and put an additional check in the search for conflicting inf's
afterwards uninstall smd intervideo hauppauge decoder if you have it installed

next reboot
and yes when the hardware wizard comes up hit advanced
then next
then check the circle with browse at the beginning of it thats it
then hit browse
browse to the unzipped folder on your desktop
then hit ok
then hit next
and continue install when it asks
then next
then finish
if you take to long it will give a driver error and you will have to run hcw.clear.exe again
so do it when the wizard comes up
if it is still not updating then check the device manager and make sure it does not have a exclaimation mark beside the card
if not is the version 1.17.390.22029?
that is the newest
to get 1.8.22037,
you have to install the separate pvr update.exe (thats not its name)
but it is an executable rather than an inf folder or the files in the cd folder

also the HDTV card could be part of it
why pull them both out get everything uninstalled
do the pvr 350 first then the HDTV card second
since hauppauge hardware is so testy to begin with

I upgraded the drivers following the instructions on http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support_pvr250-350.html. This TOTALLY fixed my hang problems with the PVR-350. BUT, my Hauppauge remote quit working. So i found http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...uppauge+remote and installed the new IR software from http://www.shspvr.com/.

Didn't fix it. Any ideas?

Why does SageTV have to be a treasure hunt?

When you installed the new irremote software you probably lost the SageTV related lines in the irremote.ini file. If you have a backup copy you should restore the irremote.ini and then restart the irremote software. Otherwise see Q: How do I use the Hauppauge remote to control SageTV? When I press a button, nothing happens. from the SageTV FAQ.

That fixed it. I'm still disappointed that Frey sent me the PVR-350 bundle with software known to be bad and then let me spend HOURS finding the fixes. They haven't replied to my e-mail for 2 days now.

The box works great and I'm trying to get brave enough to load mlbdude's STV. My goal was to replace my ShowStopper with something that I could record on and then burn to DVD and I have achieved that.

Thanks! This forum and its community is the best support I've seen.

Was the software really bad? I would think it probably was just not the most current. You are lucky if you always get current drivers every time you buy hardware. I almost always check for new drivers whenever I get new hardware.

I'd call locking up at the end of every recording BAD. It is worth remembering that the "bad" software wasn't Frey's. It was Hauppauge's drivers. But I didn't just buy hardware or software. I bought a bundle from Frey. I expected more than them just stuffing hardware and CDs in the box.

Regardless. as I mentioned, it's working fine now. All due to this forum!
