STV7.x Live TV Video quality
A quick question:
I am running SageTV 7.1.5 on a fairly high-end system (see my sig for specs). My PC monitor has a 1920x1080 resolution, just like my HDTV. Why is the video for Live TV (off my strong OTA signal) in SageTV a significantly lower quality than the video for my main TV? In SageTV, I see banding, jaggies, and fuzziness that I don't see on my main TV. I have the MS-DVD decoders set up for most of my decoding stuff.

It's probably related to the additional video processing done by your TV and/or other component in your home theater. The deinterlacing being the big one (it gets rid of the jagged edges).

Well, I just discovered the "QuickTV" feature for my HD-Homerun TV source.
The picture playback in the QuickTV program is a LOT better than the picture I get in SageTV, and now it is being played on the same PC. And, the PC CPU load is only about 5%-7% in QuickTV. There should be a way for me to get the same quality within SageTV, shouldn't there?

You should be able to get playback from the HDHR that is comparable to that from your TV. It is probably in the setup of you system.
Under: Setup\Detailed Setup\Video/Audio What to you have for: Video Renderer ? MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter ? I assume you are running Win7 with such a new rig? I would also download and install ffdshow for audio: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ffdshow |
