Help! Client on PC with NO DVDRom or PVR- how to install codecs
I purchased another license for Client to put on Debi's PC. Problem is it doesn't have a DVDRom or PVR and I haven't figured out how to get playback codecs to install. It has a Sapphire Radeon 7000 32M but won't install DVD support without a DVD. Have 5 new PVR250s and their software but don't have one in her system and it doesn't seem to want to install the needed codecs either.
Is there a way to get the playback codecs installed without temporarily installing supported hardware?\ Also have WinDVD5 and PowerDVD... Any insight would be appreciated. |

Well, since no help forth coming and haven't found an answer searching the forum and FAQs, guess I'll pull the DVDRW out of my system and put it in Debi's temporarily. Seems like I've found my first thing to say is stupid about SageTV(Client). Seems weak not installing or enabling to be installed codec components needed for functionality. DVD hardware player not needed to "use" SageTV yet DVD hardware player needed to install codecs to make Sage usable...

why not use your network share the file (installer) for the codec/decoder program then just install it

Just a thought, what about some of those 'virtual cd/dvd drives' that many people use to spoof a drive when the cd is supposed to be in the machine in order to play. Seems to me this might work.

Thanks for the suggestion(s) but my trying to find the codec drivers on shares and CDs failed. I'd tried before your posts but didn't know exactly the files I was looking for. I'm a hardware kind of guy primarily! So Debi's Client is now working fine and my DVDRW back in my system...

why did you have to install a DVD decoder with a CD rom
why not just use the installer(the .exe) what decoder is this anyways? all I have seen are one file executables that install |

-ATI, WinDVD, PowerDVD & Haupauge all got missing hardware errors when attempting to install without either DVDRom drv or PVR respectively. -What decoder? I was attempting to get ANY Mpeg2 decoder installed on my wife's PC so SageTVClient would playback. -If I had standalone codecs purchased maybe just running their exe install would have worked. Didn't seem I should have to buy a codec pack when I have multiple legal that came with various hardware etc. 5 PVR 250s, 4 in Server, 1 in main Client = 5 legal licenses yet won't install unless PVR actually in 2nd Client etc... |
