Best Codecs and Settings?

I am wondering what the best codecs and any filters and setting would be to get the best picture quality on my system.

My server is a P4 2.4 with Hauppage 350 pvr card and an ATI AIW 8500DV for TV out. I will use composite out as my TV doesn't have SVideo input. My TV is a Standard RCA 27" tv.

I have heard good things about Sonic decoders. Also heard some good things about ffdshow.

Currently I am using the InterVideo decoder that came with WinDVD5.

Any suggestions and/or comments?

You might want to try some searches, since there are some recent threads talking about software decoders:

and
http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...t=best+decoder

are just 2 quick search results.

Yeah, I'm interested in this as well and have tried to use ffdshow by adding the line to the properities file but no go. For some reason in ffdshow, MPEG 1 and 2 are listed as broken, not working or disabled (can't remember which exactly right now). I've also seen stuff about nVidia VPP, but that doesn't apply to you and I won't crap on your thread anymore.

For ffdshow you need to enable Raw Video, All Supported in the codecs section. You Don't actually use ffdshow to decode, it just processes the video after it's been decoded by the decoders.

Yeah, I enabled all raw, and when I chose ffdshow in Sage, I got the dreaded can't start/find/something is wrong dummy error.
