How to playback in Windows Media Player

I've got a PVR350-based Sage v1 system and I'd like to copy some of the recorded shows to my laptop to watch while "on the road". When I try to open them in Windows Media Player, it appears it attempts to download a codec from codecs.microsoft.com but then I get an error dialog with

ClassFactory cannot supply requested class

I'm guessing I need to install the same codec on my laptop that is used on my PVR, but I've got no idea where to find it and how to install it. I've not done anything fancy with Sage codec wise and am using whatever the defaults are.

Anyone have any suggestions?

You need an mpeg2 codec. The intervideo will not iinstall without the PVR card being installed. You can download a demo of windvd, powerdvd, elecard or something else.

So I download them and install them and that will install the correct codec and then I can watch in Windows Media Player?

Nevermind my above question. I installed Elecard MPEG2 Decoder Package 2.0, and now they play back, but...

The images aren't in the correct proportion. They show up with the horizontal squished into a square, instead of the normal "width longer than height".

More advice greatly appreciated.
