Record a show - I donīt get it
Hi!
I have downloaded Sage TV and iīm very impressed with the product. There is one basic feature though that I just donīt realize how to do. I have Hauppauge PVR250 and therefore Iīm used to switch channels and record a show to a file by its software "WinTV2000". But how do I do that just as easy with SageTV? I want to switch to a channel I want to watch and the just hit "record" and then be able to give the file a name. Sage seems to record all shows temporary with its own filenames. Since I live in Europe I canīt use EGP so all shows Sage displays are just named "No data". I must have missed something very obvious here... ![]() |

You might want to take the XMLTV route to populate your epg.

to give a bit more info, people outside of the US do not get tv guide data supplied by frey technologies so there is a standard for listing TV listings called XMLTV which works with numerous pvr programs
It is possible to get up to 14 days of listings using XMLTV which can then load imported into SageTV. This then allows you to for example set up series recordings etc. theres some info here http://mta.techno.org/epg/ it takes a bit of time to setup but once you get it all working it pretty much automated any probelms post on here, im sur eppl will be able to help, one tip though search the forums 1st obviously it is dependent on XMTV being supported in you country in europe as it uses tv listings websites to get the listing info Last edited by m1ketuck; 05-18-2004 at 10:48 PM. |

Thanks, Iīll check the XMLTV.
My major concern isnīt really EPG. As I understand it I can get good use of SageTV without an EPG. My trouble is more basic - I just donīt understand how to easily record a show. In my world, recording a show should just involve three steps: 1. Switch to the channel I want to record 2. Hit "Record" 3. Enter a filename for the recording At least, these are the steps involved when using WinTV2000. Sage has a lot of nice and powerful features, but I canīt find how to do this. |

That kind of simpler behavior is more what SageRecorder was built for. SageTV was designed to be a full PVR. This means it will automatically name(according to EPG data) the recorded shows and display their info when you go to the Sage Recordings menu. Until you get a EPG source(if possible for your country) you won't really be using SageTV to it's full potential. As for specifing the filename... all that is handled by SageTV according to the EPG data. There is no way to manually set the filename in SageTV.
Generally speaking, SageTV's naming convention for recordings is: ShowNameEpisodeName-UniqueID-part of file The last section is really only used if for some reason Sage needed to break up a recording into multiple pieces. Otherwise the last part will always be a "0". If it Sage needed to use multiple files then it just keeps increasing the number 1,2,3, etc for each new part created. Here's a sample from my recording dir for an episode of CowboyBebop: CowboyBebopGanymedeElegy-297224-0
