Kaspersky heuristic "detection" of SageTVTranscoder.exe

This morning Kaspersky Internet Security 20111 fired on "SageTVTranscoder.exe" on one of my SageTV client PCs, claiming it was a virus. The complaint was Heuristic.Win32.generic (i.e. not a virus match but rather "looked like" a virus based on behavior or other patterns). I discount this as a virus (HW firewall + Kaspersky + very little if any Firefox-only surfing from that PC) so I denied the recommended procedure (disinfect & reboot).

Just wanted to report the behavior.

You probably want to report it to Kaspersky, since they're the ones getting it wrong.

I confirm the same.
It is getting very annoying!!!!!
Every now and then I have to deal with this .
After kaspersky quarantined the file it asked me to restore it and as soon as restore it takes it again.

When will netflix or somebody else start stream live TV so we can stop wasting time on stupid software.

Here's a crazy idea, get rid of Kaspersky, since they are the ones that keep getting it wrong.

Here is the fact:
out of hundreds of software only sage is being detected.
I got rid of Kaspersky on my server.
Temporarily!

But it will be so much better if TV was in the cloud like netflix.
A lot better solution.
And do not have to deal with cable companies for other then internet.
And Townsend of dollars in hardware and hundreds of hours wasting time with trouble shooting.

This isn't the first time Kaspersky has mistakenly clobbered Sage. Last time Kaspersky had to send out an update. But that didn't happen until folks let them know.

As said before, the problem is with Kaspersky, not Sage

I have had virus scanners catch everything from Steam components, to Hex editors, to Sage and everything in between. The fact is it's a heuristic scanner meaning it looks for virus like activities. That's a pretty broad definition and they are going to get it wrong from time to time. Certain there are folders shouldn't be scanned for viruses. Your video folder, Applications that you don't want down time, etc. That's why virus companies give you the option to exclude folders and applications from monitoring.

In the grand scheme if you practice pretty safe computing and think before you click you may not need a virus scanner. But that's not for me to decide for you and it really depends on your skill level.

And it would be great if cities had better mass transit. Meanwhile, if your car's airbag malfunctions, you take it back to the dealer and get it fixed. You don't blame the freeway system for the car maker's screwup.
