Play back of ATSC TV pauses

ever since upgrading my SageTV server to win7 from WHS I have been having issues with playing back recorded TV...
DVD's play fine, BR plays fine, HD DVD plays fine...
it is just recorded TV that has an issue...

at first I thought it was a network issue, just because the pause seemed very much like what happens when the network is unhappy... but, I have a Samsung Q1 by my couch (normally used for CQC control of everything), so I had it doing a "ping 192.168.1.80 /t" while I was watching a recorded show... while the show was playing, there were a few delays here and there, nothing major, nothing bad... it was just like the network was being used...
but when the show would freeze, the ping reported no delays what so ever... almost like there was no data on the network... but the server was still very happy...

so I think I can rule out network issues... ping isn't the perfect test, but I think in this case, it may be good enough?

also, BR, HDDVD & Regular DVD are stored on an unRAID server... if it was a network thing, wouldn't those be worse?

my recording drives are 2 WD 1.5TB green drives.... they worked fine with WHS, but could Win7 be letting them fall asleep or something even though they should be in use?

anyone have any experience with green drives & win7?

any other helpful hints/tips?

Initial thought is check the decoders your using.

The decoder setup for DVD, BR, and HD-DVD is separate from the decoders used for video playback.

Also if your using the Arcsoft decoders you may need to verify that HA (DXVA 1 & 2) are enabled.

I don't need decoders
I only use HDx00's extenders for playback... most wonderful invention really...

Two questions:

If you were to rewind a few seconds and playback, do the pauses appear in the same spots?

Can you play/watch it cleanly on your SageTV Server?

some (most actually) of the recorded TV was recorded when my SageTV was running on WHS... most of those I have seen already, and they did not have this issue when running on WHS.
also note, these are the same drives as before, nothing has moved or changed with them or the files structure
but I will try the rewind thing anyway... cant hurt...

as for playing back on the sage server, that would be problematic... no audio device, no monitor as such...

OK, Never mind the decoders (here's the Sex Pistols )

I presume you have updated the firmware in the extenders? (I don't use extenders so I admit I can't help much) I seem to remember some firmware upgrades for the extenders with Sage 7. (oops, I see your on Win 7 but what version of SageTV?)

You could also verify your using the latest NIC drivers on the server (preferably the drivers from the manufacturer of the NIC rather then Microsoft).

Adjust your power plan to maximum and never turn off hard drives to see if it cures the problem.
