Starting/Stopping SageTV Service Via Command Line

As part of my backup strategy, I want to stop the SageTV service in the wee hours, back up Wiz.bin, and then re-start the SageTV service.

Looks to me like Net Stop "SageTV" and Net Start "SageTV" are going tb the ticket.

Aside from not having a "real" backup utility that doesn't care if Wiz.bin is in use or not... can anybody see a flaw in this strategy?

(I've been feeling out Cobian - which works some magic to get around "File In Use", but intuitively it seems safer to just not have the file in use.... )

So long as you're sure nothing's recording (or at least nothing that you care about), it should work.

You may find that stopping the service puts your extenders to sleep so that you'll have to manually wake them next time you want to use them.

Or you could include the commands in your script to reboot your HD200s after issuing the Net Start "SageTV" command. One way to accomplish this is explained in this thread: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35464
