remote problem

So recently I upgraded from XP(32bit)/SageTV6 to Win7x64/SageTV7. Hardware did not change except for the addition of two 1.5TB hard drive (see specs in signature).

First I merely upgraded v6 to v7 on XP and everything was fine. Then I upgraded to Win764bit.

When I reinstalled, I installed sage first, then installed the hauppauge tuners and then only installed the remote software from hauppauge (ir32_27244). The remote still did not work, but then I found some article here that lead me to downloading one of the irremote files (I dont' remember which one).

Everything worked pretty well (even sleep), but the response time lagged a bit and the wife was displeased. So I attempted to fix it.

Since I jacked with it, nothing has worked. I have since uninstalled Sage7 completely, reinstalled the hauppauge remote software, then reinstalled and re-setup Sage and still, the irremote.ini file was not created in the Windows directory. I found this thread:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47215

Poking around from there I have downloaded a couple of the irremote files and put then in the Windows directory and that doesn't work (even after modifying the file to point to the right path to sage using short file names).

Heck, I even tried the version of irremote that uses messages. Yes, I tried new batteries.

So, when does the irremote.ini file get created? Is that something that is created when the hauppauge remote software is installed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. right now I am forced to use the keyboard (yes, that works fine) but the WAF is very low.

Thanks.

Unhappy I Am Haing A Similar Problem

Problem during upgrade. Also tried the clean install. Remotes are not working and not selectable. USBIRT ports (2) not available, HDPVR remote not available. IR settings somehow messed up or no longer working.

I am disappointed. WAF is also very low (very, very low). I am considerring reinstalling V6 to restore functionality.

doncote, I saw your post and had hoped that someone would reply to one of us and get us some help.

Did you try following the link to the post that I mentioned? There are several links from there including a version of the irremote.ini files that uses windows messages.

Maybe you will have better luck than I. Right now we are forced to use the wireless keyboard; all the keys seem to work properly. 'Home' gets me to the main menu, up/down/left/right gets me navigating. we also have ff/rw keys that skip ahead or back 2:15; play/pause and vol up/down. That has been the saving grace for me on the home front. But it is not an acceptable replacement for the remote.

I still want to know how the irremote file gets created. Is the Hauppauge install program supposed to create it or does sage create it?

It's supposed to be in the 'Windows' folder, but is that true for Win7 64 bit systems?

Hopefully Monday everyone will be back from their vacations and we will get some traction on the forums.

Talking Got It Working Again

Here are the basic steps
1. Backup wiz.bin, wiz.bak, sage.properties to a non-sage folder. Put sage.properties in a separate subfolder...(you will be retrieving information from it but not copying the file final installation).
2. Go to the common\RemoteCodes folder and copy all custom folders (along with the custom ir files) to another non-sage folder if in doubt copy the entire RemoteCodes folder.
3. Copy all frq and scn files from the sagetv folder (sagetv\sagetv) to another location. You might also want any custom comskip files.
4. Shutdown all sagetv, sagetvservice, comskip and sjq
5. Uninstall sagetv
6. Delete the sagetv and common folders from inside the sagetv directory (not the whole sagetv installation folder).
7. Uninstall all software from systems that use IR. Uninstall all USB devices ensure to tell system to delete drivers and driver information. Uninstall all Hauppauge software. Uninstall other similar software for other devices (like Avermedia).
8. Run hwclear telling system to look for conflicting software with the selected option to remove all driver files and apps.
9. Before you reboot, use CCleaner to scrub the registry. (Make a backup reg file just in case, but accept all changes to references to any sagetv tuner, folder or file.)
10. restart
11. reinstall sagetv to the orginal install directory (c:\sagetv is recommended for Win7), but do NOT start it up at the end of the installation.
12. copy the good wiz.bin, scn and frq files and any custom comskip files to the new sagetv directory
13. copy the new common\remotecodes folder to another location just in case
14. copy the contents from the remotecodes folder that was backup in step 2 to the new remotecodes folder. If you are asked to overwrite, do not (unless you are sure. You can always overwrite with the copy of the new install remotecodes backup that you made in step 13 if necessary).
15. open old sage properties folder and copy entire entries for lines that starts with something like seeker/archive and seeker/video_storage (copy it to notepad an minimize notepad). Also copy any custom HDPVR recording settings. Close the old sage.properties file.
16. open the new sage.properties folder and replace the existing seeker lines with the corresponding ones from step 15. Also copy any custom HDPVR recording settings replacing any preexisting corresponding lines that may exist.
17. add advanced_system_file_recovery=true to the new sage.properties file.
18. save the new sage.properties file.
19. start the new sagetv app. Recordings, favorites and the previously used sagetv directories should all be available.
20. install all hauppauge devices and related IR software
21. install the USBUIRT
22. Install any other previously need drivers or device apps that were needed (like the avermedia stuff).
23. Setup any HDHR sources (or any other devices that do NOT require IR).
24. shutdown sagetv
25. restart computer
26. continue configuration in sagetv with the sources that use IR. The IR device should now be available.
27. Once all of your recording sources are setup, shutdown sagetv and restart computer to ensure changes are saved.
28. After restart, check audio/video settings in detailed setup. Work your way through the rest of the detailed configuration to everything is setup the way you had/want it.

doncote,
I will try this tonight or tomorrow night.

The one thing that concerns me is how in number 11 you say taht it is recommended that sage be installed in C:\ for windows 7.

I searched through the manual and there is no mention of this. In fact, the manual references the "Program Files" folder, which is where all the 64bit program install. The manual seems to need to be updates since Sage actually defaults to the "Program Files (x86)" folder.

I will reply back with update...hopefully some of the gurus here can comment on proper installation folder for 64bit systems.

Oh one more thing, I just re-read your post to make sure i understood everything. There is another difference between waht you have written and what is recommended in the manual. In the manual it says to install all hauppauge and other software before Sage, while you say to install sage first. Unless anyone has another recommendaion, I will try doncote's recommendation.

Lightbulb C:\sagetv install

UAC is a concern in many operating systems now. Placing sage in C:\sagetv essentially prevents problems with UAC.

Many others that have had success with Win7 and Win7(64) have used the c:\sagetv directory do avoid potential issues.

I am sure that there are other ways to avoid those problems, but this was the easiest solution that I found. I have been Win7x64 with SageTV for a long time now. This might have lead me to my initial configuration and current configuration:

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...ight=Windows+7. Another alternative is just to disable UAC.

The manual was designed for 32 bit systems. The (x86) directory exists on 64 bit systems. As long as you do not copy the sage.properties file over from a 32 bit system, you should be fine.

Thumbs up added indent

So...in short the remote is now working. But...

doncote, I don't think it was because I reinstalled following your great directions. Although it did help eliminate installation as the culprit.

As I installed, though, I did figure out that the irremote.ini file is created during the Hauppauge remote installation.

One of the problems seems to be that Sage does not modify the irremote file during installation (maybe only on 64bit systems). I think it is supposed to add in the SageTV remote commands, but it did not appear to do so. So I just modified the newly installed file with the sage commands and updating the instruction for the green power button by following the links in this post:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4277

After the re-installation and updating the irremote file from above post, it still wouldn't work, so I started to get desperate. I switched batteries again...no. Then I got out my baggy of spare tuner parts. I first tried using the second IR receiver, and simply plugged it into the second tuner card...IT WORKED.

I thought my original had gone bad, so I unplugged it, then it stopped working.

not sure about everyone else, but it seems that my system needs to have an IR receiver installed in each card for it to work. Prior to upgrading to Win7x64 from XP32, I only needed a single IR receiver installed.

So, if you are having problems with your new Win7x64 and sage7 and you have multiple tuner cards installed try this first.
1) Install IR remote receiver into each of your cards.
2) Check the irremote.ini file (located at c:\windows) to see if there are sage commands (search for "sagetv"). If not then shut down the ir.exe program and follow the link above to:
a) Add in all the sage commands at the end of the file
b) modify the function of the green button. Search for "grnpower", then modify it to: GRNPOWER={run(C:\<file structure>\SageTV\SageTV.exe)}{mode(SageTV)} where <file structure> is the stuff between 'C' and the SageTV folder.
c) Modify the "GO" button function in the [SageTV] section of the ini file. It should match GRNPOWER.
d) you could probably use the file that is linked at the bottom of post #3 in the above link, but this is what worked for me.
The only thing not working is when I press the button with the little house on it, nothing happens. It used to go to the main menu. My the wife is so ecstatic that everything else works that I think I am going to ignore it for a while.

Right now I am basking in the glow of the TV under my complete control. Ha ha haaaa.

Thanks again doncote, you are the only one who replied. Andy's (Opus) post was very helpful.

I'd love to hear anyone else's woes with the Hauppauge controller as of late.

Cheers,

Hello,

was curious if anyone had found a simpler way around this?
