i say buy it see what you can figure out and if it doesn't work you still have all the hd300 standalone features it seems. trust me anyone here knowledgeable enough will help you trying to hack the firmware on there

also if you've been invested in sage since version 4 follow me on twitter and dm me there i have a little something ive been fiddling with today with good results

my twitter is the same

Hey guys,

sorry to bump this thread. I need to buy another 2 HD300's but that's a problem for obvious reasons.

This box would be fine for me only it can't watch live TV.

I just had a quick brainwave but not sure if it would work. Would it be possible to get Sage (via a plugin) to write live tv streams to the hard disk and then use this box to play them as recorded media.

Would something like that work at all?

Thanks.

Oh cool, so I wonder would it be possible to pick them up using this lookalike box? I guess you'd still need to tell Sage to tune to the desired channel :-/

I find some of the Android based streaming boxes more intriguing.

See this thread. This appears to be a box that shows up in many guises. Tempted to get one and play around with it.

Replacement HD300?

Sumvision have a box that is almost identical to the HD300. see link below

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/sumvi...k-media-player

Interestingly its firmware is upgradeable via usb stick. Could it therefore be flashed with a HD300 firmware and therefore become a HD300?

For £50 almost worth a try

My understanding is that there is some sort of DRM and/or hardware signature enforcement happening in both directions. When asked if the HD300 f/w could be made to work on the WDTV live plus, Jeff hinted that "we're not that stupid". That makes me think that the firmware somehow checks for the hardware's signature, and would only run on a genuine HD300.

I've got a WDTV, but I haven't had time to try loading the Sage f/w...
