Blu-ray Playback on V7 client

I've searched everywhere and can't find anything like what I'm running into. I have a new client with the following hardware:
J&W 785 MB
Athlon II X2 240 @3.1ghz
2gb DDR2
WD 200gb 7200rpm hdd
Using on-board HD4200 and HD audio

Everything is run through gigabit lan. All my standard DVDs play fine. I recently ripped The Dark Knight Blu-Ray in folder fashion and can't get it to playback smoothly. No matter what settings I use, Iit stutters and I can hear the hdd seeking like mad. I have the frame buffer set at the max along with using the 128mb sideport memory. Anyone know why it would be seeking the hdd like that? Stuttering is exactly inline with the seeking. In other words, if the seeking stops for a few seconds, plaback is smooth.

Thanks,

BT

sounds like it could be a failing hard drive. So it is having to continually re-read sectors until the checksum matches.

Does the movie play fine off the disc from in sage? This would eliminate everything else as the culprit.

Hard drive should be fine. It is new and the same thing happened with the other that was in there before this one. No hdd issues other than during attempted ripped BD playback. I do not have a BD drive installed in this client currently. I will have to install one and see. Will also attempt playback using ISO from clonedrive soon. I was just wondering if the codec or some other setting was causing the issue. Playback is better (not perfect) on my Sage server which has a discrete 8500GT and I get no hdd sound.

On a whim, I disabled sideport memory and it got worse. I'm just wondering if the system is running short of video (or virtual) memory and using the hdd to cover the shortfall. The frame buffer is set at max. Something just occured to me. Since I am using only 2gb of memory, maybe it's restricting the amount that I can allot for video. Perhaps I should upgrade to 4gb?

BTW, everything else HD plays fine.

I've got a 785 based board with sideport and have zero problems playing back bluray material on it - even streaming over the network. Something is causing the hard drive thrashing - and if it isn't the hdd itself, it's probably something like a virus scanner or something.

I'm running 7 HP 32bit with Aero off. I use Avast AV, but I can't remember what scanning services are running in the background. I will check all services when I get home this evening and see if I can come up with anything.

If you don't mind, could you share your Sage setup info pertaining to Video/Audio and DVD. I've tried every combination of decoders / renderers and can't seem to get happy with things on either of my Sage boxes when it comes to BD.

Thanks,

BT

All I've ever needed for pretty much anything was EVR, and Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder... ffdshow Audo Decoder for audio.

I checked the AV out when I got home and found that I had left the application scanner on. I disabled it and things got a lot better. Downloaded ffdshow and ripped BR playback is pretty good now. Maybe just a hint of micro-stutter, but maybe I'm looking too hard. I'll have to let the others check it out to see for sure.

Thanks for the help Fuzzy!
