help with detailed setup-audio/video

So I've read the manual, and while it may be of some help, when phrases like "choose between the encoders, decoders, renderers and filters that are installed on your system", it isn't much help in de-bugging a non-functioning system.

Can someone with a the Hauppauge HD PVR, and b Sage 7 running on windows 7 32 bit, please post a rundown of the key renderers, decoders, filters for audio and video for a basic installation.

just looking for the simplest combination of those items that work with the system mentioned above - as any combination I seem to try results in Sage crashing.

thanks

Decoders - Microsoft DTV/DVD Video Decoders for Mpeg2 and H264
SageTV for mpeg2 audio. (Intervideo from windvd 9 for closed captions from mpeg)

Renderers - EVR for Video and Audio should be Default or Default Directsound Device.

Nothing for encoders.

I do find Windows 7 64 bit more solid for video playback.

Thanks - I'll give those a spin. I have a Gigabyte MB with ATI onboard video - HD4200, so that's the audio driver I'm kinda forced to use for HDMI audio out.

How do you get Dolby 5.1 out of the system? Is that through the Audio Renderer? Also, depending on what I select there, I also LOSE the ability to be able to mute the system, or control the volume level with the remote control - any idea what could be the problem there?
I believe it has something to do with the AC3 filter, and whether or not "use SPDIF" is selected or not.
That also seems to effect my 5.1 output.
Any thoughts?
