Thanks for the info.
What plugins give you trouble? I think my hardware is more than enough based on the fact that I can manually build a playback graph using the haali splitter and playback is fine. If I replace the haali splitter with Sage source and Sage demux playback has a stutter in the video. This testing is with sage shut down. That rules out a plugin issue.

I can't believe there are any plugins out there that even have the capability to affect playback capabilities - I'm guessing it was either coincidence, or something like comskip running, robbing CPU ticks.
