Also, I found that it helped to cover the IR receiver on the Hd-PVR with black electrical tape.

If you want to exhaust all options, I guess I would record using analog out instead of spdif. Unplug blaster and record 1 channel for like 6 hrs to see if it locks up. Alot of users use dedicated nec based usb cards. Look to see if there is an upgrade to bios.
I think I might just take your advice and see if I can trade it in for another one. It was on analog audio since I didn't have an extra spdif and I just wanted to get it up and running.

After about 4-5 hrs it said "capture device not found"

I just go in my USBuirt I ordered this week, so I'll go ahead and try the 6hr recording thing without the blaster and see what happens. I kinda have my doubts but its worth a try since I couldn't send it out until tomorrow anyway. But if it works, I'll get rid of the blaster and just use the usbuirt.

I had already done that, I didn't think about it helping the performance, but it had fallen off twice with the adhesive provided and I just wanted it to stay on there

Well, I went ahead and uninstalled everything and reinstalled the hvr-2250, then HD PVR and finally sage as per sic0048's instructions.

Got everything working when I set it up and I am using the USBuirt instead of the blaster that comes with it this time.

I'm anxious to see if it will still be working when I get home or if I get the same "capture device not found" message. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well, this is frustrating... Still doing the same thing it was before. When I look in the device manger, it says the the HD PVR could not start (code 10). If I unplug the pvr power and plug it back in, it works fine just like before. Everything else is recognized and working in the device manager except for that.

The usbuirt keeps changing the channels on the box during all this, the pvr just doesn't do anything with it.

I guess I could just put a timer on the pvr that turns it off for a minute every 6 hrs, but there has got to be a better way to do this.

You might try locking the output resolution from your set top box to 720p or 1080i. My HD-PVR doesnt like unexpected resolution changes.

USB View should show a list with what USB device is on each controller. You want the HDPVR on an enhanced USB controller with no other device on that controller.

Any USB device on the same controller as the HDPVR is trouble

You may want to contact Hauppauge. It may be a problem with the HDPVR, it should not lose connection. When you rebuilt everything did you remove your old properties files?

No, I didn't manually remove them. I just uninstalled sage as per sic0048's instructions. There are 4 properties files that I was able to find. Should I erase them all or do I need to keep certain ones? Do I still uninstall and reinstall sage? Do I need to clear the happaunge devices also?

I'm thinking it might be the pvr since its not just sage that doesn't recognize it but it is having issues in the device manager as well.

Is USBdeview what people are using?
http://download.cnet.com/USBDeview/3...-10614190.html

Its all I could find and what I used. Looking at the port and hub #, there is no other device on it.

I was having issues with my HDPVR's, but not quite the same as yours. I removed the sage.properties and sage.properties backup as well. It basically removes all the settings that Sage had setup previously, then when Sage starts up it goes through the detailed setup walkthrough and you have setup all your media directories and tuners from scratch. Its tough when these things aren't reliable, its great when they finally get working.

Does that wipe out your favorites and everything? If so, I'll manually write them down since some of them are my wife's and I probably won't remember them all.

No the favorites and watched status are stored in the Wiz.bin.

That is correct, so other USB devices are not the problem.

update:

I uninstalled sage, erased the sage properties and backup files, rebooted the computer. Re-installed sage and went through the setup process and got to the source setup. There I had my hdhr and hvr2250 show up but not the hd pvr. I finished the setup and unplugged the pvr and plugged it back in and restarted sage and it showed up. I'm pretty sure after a few hrs it will be gone again...

I'm running sage V7 and currently have HDPVR 1.0.5.301_whql version driver installed for the pvr as per sic0048's suggestion as that being the most stable driver. Originally I was using 1.5.7.0 and was getting the same thing. Should I try that driver again? What drivers are people using that have success with their pvr and sage7?

I think you need to talk to Hauppauge and see if they will RMA your HDPVR. Something seems very strange.

Well I think all that might have worked. It did give me the error message on the 3rd and I rebooted the PVR and it has worked ever since.

Thank you all for the patience and working with me through all of this.

John
